Engineer KingH'.oy and a forco
of Dion arc now surveying the
post road from Maker to the
Ingles' ranch, as soon as that
stretch is completed they will
survey Powder River Canyon
east of Richland und then the
Sag. Immediately after u Biirvey
completed, plans and specifica
tions will he drawn up and adver
tisements issued for bids.
The 1918 program appears to
js as boing absolutely fair in
every way, and wc beli'jvc our
citizens wll make a very gravo
mistake should they fail to pledge
the JtO00 apportioned to be raised
in Eagle Valley, as that amount
will bring $20,000 for improving
the road east of Richland the
coming summer.
Several have told us that they
thought conditions hardly right
for such extensive improvements.
Our reply is this: Oregon will
spend a certain amount on roads
this year; hundreds of other sec
tions of the state stand ready to
ta'v ;. ' igeof the opportun
it - the benefit of the
f.Hi. i et aside in case thit

this mimes it necessary that w

No enc will deny that the
Raker-Cornucopia post road when
completed will be worth many,
many thousands of dollars to tin
residents contiguous to the route
throughout its entire length. If
the program as planned for 1918
is carried out, other portions will
ho built next year, and the com
pletion of the road from Raker to
Cornucopia in 1920 is assured by
the Stata. Highway Commission.
. Ere manydnys every property
owner in this section will bo ask
ed to contribute to this cause and
wo venture the assertion that
it will be a short and easy task tc
raise the sum required.

The regular meeting of Rich
land's common council was held
Tuesday night and among other
matters taken up was the dance
ordinance. Although the clerk's
minutes show but one previous
