as the Pat Long Bridge.
The road will bo practically all
on the north side of the river,
will have a GO-foot right of .way
wiih a 22'foot graveled roadway,
and active construction work will
be completed through the canyon .
next summer.
Mr. Kingsley will go East to
spend the holiday and expects
to return here ;n the spring and
finish surveying the road through
to Cornucopia,
Former Resident Dead.
James Frank Kirby died at his
home at Avillu, Mo., on Sunday.
Dec. fllh, 1917, aged 80 years.
Mr. Kirby was a resident of this
'onimunity for eight years, leav
ing hare about 17 years ago, and
has a llost of friends among our
older citizens.
Although totally blind for more
than 20 years, the deceased was
strong and hearty and on the day
preceding lvis dep.t!..hr.d shoveled
the snow off the walks around
his home; he caught a severe cold
and died before morning.
Three sisters and two brothers
survive, one of the latter being
our felow townsman, W. W.
Kirby.
"Uncle Frank," as he was call
ed by all who enjoyed his acquain
tance, was a most lovable man
and a devoted Christian, and in
spite of his aflliction was always
well posted on the world's doings'
and was a conciencious bible
student.

The membership of the Baker
County Agricultural Council re
cently organizedj is madd up of a
representative from each com
munity. J. C. Bowen and Thos.
Seigel being chosen frcm Eagle
Valley, and its purpose is to gov
em the work of the county agent
and to promote the agricultural
welfare of the county.
Officers of the council were
elected as follows: Pres.! Henry
McKinney of Erwin; vice-pres.,
F. S. Heard of Haines; secretary
and treasurer, H. E. Tweed.
Agricultural problems of vital
interest to the county were dis
cussed and the following lines of
work were decided upon as those
upon which Mr. Tweed will de
vote the major portion of his
time during the coming year:
li-Fidd demonstrations, which
cover, crop variety trials, use of
fertilizers, potato improvement,
etc.
2 Control of noxious weeds.
3 Irrigation and drainage,'
4 Farm labor. "
5 Bulk handling of grain.
6 Breed improvement
7 Rodpnt control. .

9 Co-operative marketing.
