MISSED THE SHOW
Their fear of "going on high"
and thechancotomakoa "buck"
caused some of tho Richland boys
to hubs part of the program at
tho Pend'eton Round Up lastSat
We are told that they stood in
line Hovornl hours in order to pur
chase seats in the grandstand;
when these were secured, it was
found the seats were pretty high
both in prico and location. A
consultation was held, and after
much debating it was decided to
dispose of the seats at a premium
and go to tho "bleachers."
With the extra coin jingling in
their pockets, these financiers
blissfully took their seats under
tho threatening sky, each man
mentally congratulating himself
on his smartness. But, alas, they
had reckoned not on the elements
nnd were soon enjoying (?J a
shower bath. Smiles vanished as
did also the creases in clothes and
starch from collars. In a short
time the fellows concluded they
had made a mistake somewhere
and the several half-drowned,
sHeeptsh-looking men beat it for

E GAM KILLED
Some party or parties are evi
dently trying'to break into prison
or mept with a violent death, by
maliciously killing stock on the
Daly Creek range. About a dozen
cattle belonging to various Eagle
Valley men have been found dead
during tho past few weeks, every
animfd having been shot or pois
oned. In several instances the
brand hud been cut cut and the
ears completely cut off so as to
make identification almost im
possible. A hind leg was miss
ing from one of the carcasses, so
it is evident that the miscreant
would steal as well as kill.
Those who have lost cattle in
this manner, refuse so divulge
their suspicions as to whom the
criminal or criminals aie, but we
are informed that plans are being
made whereby certain parties
will be kept under surveillance
for the nsxt. year or more, and
their actions and whereabout
during the past summer will be
Generally speaking, we believe
in letting the law handle offend
ers, but in this crime we would
like to see the guilty ones stretch
hemp; for any party who is mean
enough to kill cattle on the public
range is too low down ,on the
scale of humanity to be allowed
to associate with the foulest
criminal in prison.
Drought is Broken.
The long drought has been
broken. From Saturday evening
until Monday morning this sec
tion was blessed with a steady
downpour. Although there was
2.09 inches of water fell in less
than 8G hours the heaviest rain
fall in that length of time ever
recorded in Eagle Valley there
has been no damage reported.
The rain was worth hundreds of
thousands of dollars to the com
munity for it will make grass
grow in tho hills and also enable
the dry-land farmer to start fall

Cattle in Demand.
Messrs. W. C. Boyd of Marion,
Iowa; Floyd C. Campbell of Port
land; A. S. and R. L. Boyd of
Sparta, have been in the Valley
the past several days trying to
buy beef steers. So far we have
learned of but one deal that was
closed, although several contracts
are "hanging fire."
The men purchased 54 head

them at a $300 profit to Lovell
