WARNING
All pcrsonB entering the forests
must ho extremely careful at this
timo al'out lighting fires. This is
not the Fire Marshal warning of
the usual type. There is a very
urgent reason for this warning.
There is a very urgent reason for
this warning: the woods just norw
are filled with rigid instructions
to shoot public enemies caught
setting fire to the forests.
Therefore, it is doubly necess
ary to bo careful as military pa
(rols, while instructed to exercise
every precaution, might possibly
make a mistake.
These military patrols aro op
erating in every part of Oregon-
where there aro forests Their
location is not revealed for ob
vious reasons. They move from
place to placo niyl keep to cover
as much as possjble. Their task
is that of hunting down public
enemies who havo been firing the
Oregon forests, and they are un
der orders from the Western De
partment of the Army to deal
Instantly and vigorously with
such public enemies.
So if necessary for you, to go
to the woods; be careful about
lighting fires. As the hunting
season is closed indefinitely, no
doubt it would bbotter to keep
out of the woods unless you have
urgent business therein.

SUMPTER NEEDS HELP
An urgent appeal comes from
Sumpter forrolief, from $7,500 to
$10,000 will bo required to carry
the stricken community through
the winter. Clothing, bedding,
food and cash must be forthcom
ing at once to- prevent further
und more acute suffering.
Sumpter citizens have always
been liberal in contributing to
every good cause, and every com
munity in Baker county should
respond to the appeal at once.
Eagle Valley citizens are in a
position to help out in this cause
and we would like ttf see some
ono start a movement to gather
fruit, vegetables and cash to send
to our sister community.
Contributions may be sent to
the Citizens National Bank at
Baker or to the Sumpter Relief
Committee at Sumpter.

That all may know the require

When it comes to being cruel,
mean, heartless, contemptible,
v''e' base to., otc. there is no
ne can bea tho ffreasers" as
shown in the Miss Libertv films
on Thursday nights, yet if Par
ker fallows his usual tactics of
stopping his machine and leaving
the poor girl in a dangerous posi
tion ho will have a. reputation for
downright meanness second only
to tho Moji.
Our Millinery Opening will take
place Sept 8th. We invito you
all to come in and pass upon it.
We think we have gathered to
gether a showing that would be a
credit to a .n(lch larger town.

O. F. Swander, State Secretary
Churches of Christ in Oregon,
will speak Sunday evening at our
regular? services.
The all-day outdoor services' last
Sunday .wore a success according
to thosd in attendance. The fel
lowship extended and enjoyed by
all present is the one thing that
will advance the cause of Christ,
and break down the tendency to
seperdtion so evident in this Val
ley. Wo wish to extend to one and
all a cordial welcome to our ser
vices. We believe" in a simple
gospel and unity of all believers
