Experiment Station. While ho hopes that this i simply a sporadic outbreak, all farmers throughout Eastern and Western Oregon .are urged to keep a careful lookout for this serious pout. The caterpillar ii in appearance like any ordinary cutworm cater pillara Hoft, mottled, grayish brown caterpillar nbjut an inch in length at this ti ne. They move in hordea and destroy all green vegetation in their pathway and can devastate great areas of grain alfalfa and truck crops. If any suspected caterpillars are found, specimens should be sent to the Experiment Station nt Corvallis for indontilication, so that it wilt be possible to act in time to prevent any serious losses from this pest. Cooper Starts Auto Service The auto passenger service be tween Cornucopia and Maker is now open, Cooper making his first trips Monday. From now on reg ular trips will be made each way daily, two roomy Cadillacs and one Studcbaker being used, and with careful experienced drivers such as have been employed, all patrons are insured a quick and comfortable trip. Fred has purchased two Fords which will bo used for short trips in and around the Panhandle, and will use throe trucks for handling the freight business instead of two as last year. Saturday, May 5th. was set as the day for doing the work and a committee -has been busy informing the patrons they were expected to be on hand Saturday morning with teams and imple ments for doing the .vork. I'ossibly they did not reach you, therefore wc issue a personal in vitation to each and every resi dent of Eagle Valley to come and assist in putting the school gaounds in first class condition. A big basket dinner will be served to all workers and it is hoped that enough men will turn out to make the job a short one. Come and do your part Farm Help Needed. The big cry coming from the cities and larger towns through out the United States is for the farmer to put in more crops, but if the same conditions are pre valent in other rural districts as exist in. Eagle Valley, the acre age put into crop this season will be less thnnthat of last year. This is due totiie inability to secure help. While higher wage.5 than ever before are being paid, there is not enough n.en to bt had to do thi amount of work that was done last season, as a consequence many acres available for grain will not be sowed. "Send on the help," said one of our most extensive farmers, "and I'll do my 'bit' in the way of raising food stuffs." Cemetery Fund Growing. Capt. At a meeting of the Civic League ofJHichland Monday after noon progress was reported as follows: ' Much good work toward a town clean-up has gi ne forward. In some parts of town in both yards and streets, in other places, yards have been cleaned, but no street work done as yet. It is earnestly asked that all work together to make Richland a place we can all be proud to call our home. Don't t o a knocker that every body despises.
