Keller cf Richland, oh trial for alleged sale of liquor in u dry precMiet before Justice of the Peace, Hubbard yesterday, was found not guilty by the Jury in less than five minutes after the case was given them about 0:00 o'clock. Keller was charged with selling beer in a pol hall at Uichland, one Kingj .a detec tive, claiming that he bought a bottle from Jim Downing, an em ployee of Keller. The latter also conducts a saloon at Cornucopia. Downing and Dick Dillard of Richland and B. Ashby of New Bridge, also tinder arrost on sim ilar charges, were to have boon tried today (Monday) but fol lowing the speedy acquittal of Keller the district attorney an nounced the charges ngajnst them would be dismissed. Quarterly Conference The Fourth Quarterly Confer ence was held at the Mhthodst Church last Sunday evening, and the Presiding elder, the Rev. W. A. Orr, D. D. being absent, the Pastor. Rev. While an optimistic note was heard from every quarter, and much progress was noted along every lino, and the Ladies Socie ty was Tcommended very highly for the character of the work be ing done by that body, yet it was announced that the church was not measureing up to its possibilities. More personal work, both by the pastor and people, was refcomended; and a nocd of a more decidod loyalty to the church and its ministry was riiontiondd. A report was also heard frdm the board of Trustees relative to the conditions of the church and parsonage property but tho report was not complete, and will have to be supplemented The Ladies Society will under take to paper and paint the par sonage, and the coming year the Trustees will undertake to raise tho church debt. It promoter' estimates it would cat $300U to set up one in each city and town, the expense to be shaced by th municipality, the county and tht state. Fifty of these establishment would cost the taxpayer $150,00C then whatever employment' was giv.en would be paid by the em ployor. A state ratcatehhlg campaign has been inaugerated. Rat sur' veys arc being made. The state food commissioner is askinir for legislation to exterminate rats. That means a state Rat Catcher or Rat Commissioner. The third proposition to be sprung on the legislature is the oration of the office of County Advisor an expert to give ad vice to all county officials about the duties of their offices. This is now the duty of the county attorney rind, the attot ney General of the state. But the County Advisor would be giving advice about office dutiei and business matters.
