Grant Smith & Co., of Portland, will
execute a contract for the construc
tion of a $80,000 highway in Coos
county between Glasgow and Hauser,
10 miles, and will commence work
this month. The county court adver

bond issue system, but received no
offers.
The court then decided to
build the highway on force account,
borrowing the equipment of Grant

A letter received by Secretary 01-
cott from L. A. Ltljeqvist shows that
the game laws of the Inst legislature,
us they refer to Chinese pheasants,
are slightly tangled. Three different
acts were passed, and Attorney Lllje-
qv r-t rvprresed a desire to know the
time of passage to ascertain, if pos
sible, which is controlling. The thr*1»
chapters of th° session laws involved
nre 2®7, 3 40 and 413. Secretary 01-

that Chapter 297 was received in his
office February 17; Chapter 240 on
February 16. and Chapter 13 cn Feb

slate funds to take over these bonds,
only approximately $150,000 worth of
the issue has been sold, ell told among

Oa the other hand a
number of loading banks have fatly
refused to invest in the bonds. As a
result tlie state land board is facihg
