In no unmistakable expres sion he depicted who was the hypocrite and how he could be determined. His remark was only a side hit, but w a s j direct from the shoulder and one that could he carried home and the more de fined the greater appeals the force. Too j many hypocrites preambulate in society, too many by far. The hypocrite is the one person of all persons detested by the square-toed man, be he either Christian or unbe liever, and above all the one that should he relegated to the rear in society’s realm, at least until the yellow streaks in his general make up is entirely ob literated. The pure, unadulterated hypocrite is the backbiting, blaspheming hypocrite, the scorpion of society, the cowardly, ill-bred, self-styled, know it all, that stands in the background as though in ambush, and cries “ hypocrite’’ to every man that is trying to live a clean life.
