M a z a rin 'a B ible.
The “Mazarin Bible” is so called be
cause the tlrst copy described was
found in the library of Cardinal Maza
rin at Paris in 1700. It was printed by
Gutenberg between 1450 and 1455 and
was the tirst complete book ever print
ed from movable tjpe. Its distinction
is not in any peculiarity of text, but in
the fact that it was the first book of
any kind so printed under the personal
supervision of Gutenberg, the inventor
of printing. There are known to exist
twenty-six copies, worth from $15,000
to $20,000 each.
The Business Men’s Club of the
Nestucca Valley.
For the past two weeks the business
men of Cloverdale and many who are
interested in the development of the
Nestucca Valley, have been meeting and
paving the way for an organization to
boost this part of the county.
At the meeting held Tuesday evening
last constitution and by-laws were
adopted and a vice-president and an
executive board elected.
The membership fee was placed at $1
and dues 50 cents per month.
The question of club rooms was dis
cussed and it was decided if a suflicient
membership could be secured to war
rant it the uliice building of Dr. George
would be rented and used as a club
room. A committee of three was ap
pointed to solicit names for member
ship.
Mr. Dwight who had at the tirst m eet
ing been elected president stated that
he wished it understood that his elec
tion meant only until the club could be
thoroughly organized and a perm anent
president elected. He wished to do all
he could to make the club a success, but
not living here and being unable to at
tend all the meetings, he felt that for
the best interest of the club they should
have for president a resident of the
place.
