cessory th a t helps to m ake a tow n an
a ttra c tiv e place in w hich to live. The
n e a re r such re so rt is to a tow n the
m ore co n v e n ie n t it is. and th e greater
th e p atro n ag e.
B eaver has a wooded spot th a t is a t ­
tra c tin g th e cam p ers and a considerable
n u m b e r visit th is place every y ear and
c a m p th e re for several weeks a t a tim e.
T h e m e rc h a n ts of Beaver get th e benefit
of th e tr a d e of several fam ilies for
several m o u th s d u ria g th e sum m er.
W e a re n o t jealo u s of B earver. We
w a n t to see h er cam p grounds enlarge
v ea r by y ear, y e t th e re is no reason
w hy C loverdale should not have a cam p­
g ro u n d as well as an y o th e r place.
T h e re is p len ty of p atro n a g e for all and
th e m ore cam p g ro u n d s like B eaver’s in
th e so u th end oi th e co u n ty th e b e tte r
off we will all be.
C loverdale is nicely located in so far
as th e tow n is concerned an d q u ite a
n u m b e r used to com e a n d pitch th e ir

ten ts u n d e r th e big tre e and on the
river bank west of tow n, b u t since th e
cheese factory has been b u ilt an d th e
whey tan k placed along side of it it has
caused th e place to be a b a n d o n ed by the
cam pers and th is season we have no
p articu larly good place for th e m . Now,
w hat th e people of C loverdale w an t to
do is to select a good place for cam pers
and p u t it^in p ro p e r sh ap e , th e n p u t in
th e ir bid for p atronage.
W hen th e S our G rass road is com ­
pleted th e traffic to th is end of th e
county w ill be g re a te r th a n ever and
if C loverdale wakes up to th e fact th a t
she can get th e business and m akes a de-
sireabie cam ping g ro u n d th e re is no
do u b t she will have a g re a t n u m b e r of
cam pers. N ex t season being th e first
season th a t th e bu lk of cam p ers will
come over th e new ro ad , p re p ara tio n s
m ust be m ade th is y ear to profit to any
e x te n t by th e cam b ers com ing in over
th is new road.
W e ca n n o t a ttr a c t a tte n tio n by th e
old and cru d e m eth o d s of years ago.
We m u st m ake a place t h a t is in v itin g ,
locate it h an d y to th e riv e r an d have it
easy of access. P o rtla n d an d th e W il­
lam ette V alley will fu rn ish us w ith th e
patronage if we will only m ake a place
for th em t h a t is d esirab le.
A p ark for th e citizen s is also a d e­
sirab le a d d itio n to a tow n an d a few
acres set aside for p ark and cam p­
grounds w ill be of benefit to th e people
living h ere. If ever C loverdale is to get
on th e m ap a n d a ttr a c t th e a tte n tio n of
th e o u tsid er m ore public s p irit will
have to be b ro u g h t in to action and
so m eth in g done to show t h a t we are
w a n tin g th e business.
