Brown ranch near Gervais has started. It is said to be one of the largest loganberry ranches in the United States. A storm, strictly local in charac ter. and almost cyclonic in its na ture, visited the Mill Creek section of Polk county last week. Many small buildings and fences were blown entirely away and the large barn on the farm of C. W. Huddle ston was entirely destroyed. While in swimming with two of his younger brothers in the mill pond at Wallowa Saturday Clar ence Southwick was drowned. His body was recovered by employes of the mill and two physicians made every effort to revive him, but life was extinct. He was 21 years of age. accident Monday, three miles north of that place, when the auto driven by Mrs. Hinkle ran into a telephone pole and all the occu pants were thrown out.
