    Cannon Beach Gallery Group presents
16th
Annual
SPRING
UNVEILING
ARTS FESTIVAL
It’s nearly time again for one of the North Oregon Coast’s most popular art events. This year, twelve galleries will spotlight new work by more than
75 artists May 6-8. Unveilings, demos and receptions with live music will take place all weekend long in “One of the 100 Best Art Towns in America.”*
A
rtwork being revealed for the first time will include
virtually every medium from watercolors to oils,
bronze to marble and metal sculpture, blown to
cast glass, ceramics, and precious metal jewelry.
Cannon Beach visitors who have attended this event in the past have
said they really enjoy being able to visit with the artists, while watching
many of them at work on a new piece.
Also included for the fifth year is “Art from the Chef’s Table” with more
than two dozen local chefs selecting artwork from the galleries as their
theme for creating special menu items offered only during the weekend.
The galleries and their featured event artists include:
Archimedes Gallery: What lurks in the woods and mist of the Pacific
Northwest? Shrouded with legend and mystery, the gallery will bring
you the “LORE” of the land, featuring three artists. Kelly Denato is
inspired by the beauty of optimism and its inherent tragedy, just
before disappointment.
Melita “missmonster” Curphy creates one of a kind handmade
masks, dolls and sculptures…each piece an original with individual
stories and personalities. Lana Crooks loves the antique, the creepy,
the cute and mysterious, constructing creatures from fabrics and
found objects.
Bronze Coast Gallery: Bronze artist Don Rambadt’s fascination with
birds has led him to manipulate the interplay of positive and
negative in mixed metals, giving the impression of life and
movement. Victoria Parsons’ naturalistic style is enhanced by the use
of unique specialty woods, including burls which yield stunning one-
of-a-kind creations because o their shape, age and rarity. Seth
Vandable’s detailed working knowledge of human anatomy has
eliminated the need for models, making each sculpture a truly
original creation.
Cannon Beach Art Gallery: The gallery will feature “A
Compendium of Beasts,” a juried exhibition populated with beasts
of all kinds – real, mythical and fantastical.
DragonFire Gallery: “Wild Spirit, Conservation for Life,” a group show
featuring over 25 artists in a wide variety of media, pays tribute to the
natural environment of the north Oregon coast. To celebrate and
express gratitude in DragonFire’s 15th anniversary year, 15% of gallery
sales during the Festival weekend will be donated to the North Coast
Land Conservancy, a local non-profit working tirelessly to protect and
connect natural lands and waterways.
Haystack Gallery: Welded steel artist Richard Hays will unveil his
newest humorous figures and large garden blooms, Barbara Coppock
will show her latest etchings focused on architecture, history and
landscapes, Joseph Kitzmiller will unveil mixed medium paintings, and
Jeni Lee will bring her newest work that combines paint glazes and
color washes, marks of crayons and sweeps of pastels.
Icefire Glassworks: Jim Kingwell, a melter and maker of glass since
1971, will unveil the latest in his “Embers’ series, pieces that reflect the
fiery aspect of his craft. Suzanne Kindland, taking inspiration from her
surroundings, will show new pieces from her “Emerald Forest”
collection. Mark Gordon will join them, unveiling more of his classically
inspired “Murrini” series.
Jeffrey Hull Gallery: Jeffrey’s painting career spans over 40 years. He
has been an artist and resident of Cannon Beach since 1972. Known
for his ability to capture the beauty and moods of where the water joins
land, he controls the difficult medium of watercolor, often in very large
paintings. Recently, he has also returned to painting in oil, as well. His
deep love for the area is clearly seen in his original paintings and prints.
Jewelry by Sharon Amber: Sharon focuses in on local gems with her
miniature basalt carvings and pendants set with Cannon Beach
moonrock. New abstract jewelry designs by Steven Amber-Voorheis
inspired by sea life will be unveiled as well as new impressionistic
paintings by Victoria Brooks.
Modern Villa Gallery: David Wight is well known for his innovative
freeform glass wave sculptures that embody the essence of movement
in water. With his imaginative style, bold use of color and dramatic
perspective, David Jonathan Marshall brings a fresh new look to the art
world. Inspired by mid-century animation and painted with retro and
modern colors, George Perrou’s art evokes reminiscence of the giddy,
Saturday morning cartoons of our youth.
Northwest By Northwest Gallery: Unveiling of new bronze collection
created for the festival by noted public sculptor Georgia Gerber. Also
featuring new work by fine art photographer Christopher Burkett,
landscape oil painter Jeff White, plein air painter Hazel Schlesinger,
public sculptor Ivan McLean, bronze sculptor and ceramic artist Ann
Fleming and Trompe l’oeil painter Kara Krieger-McGhee.

Pond, blown glass by Adam Kaser, a fused glass demo by Steve Krig,

foot-long painting by Rumi Tsuda will be unveiled in the walkway along
the north side of the gallery. This will lead up to a new exhibit including
glass enamel fusions on copper by Cynthia Miller, clay sculpture and
paintings by Jacquline Hurlbert, and more paintings & drawings by
