Providence Seaside Hos-
pital, in conjunction with the
American Lung Association,
is offering a monthly Bet-
ter Breathers Club to senior
members of the community
who have dif¿culty breathing.
Attendees will meet in the ed-
ucation center of the hospital
from 1:30 to 3 p.m. There is no
charge to attend, but registra-
tion is encouraged.
These sessions will provide
an opportunity to learn ways
to cope with COPD, asthma,
pulmonary ¿brosis and other
respiratory issues while get-
ting the support of others who
share the same struggles.
The Better Breathers Club’s
monthly meetings will feature
educational presentations on
a variety of relevant topics in-
cluding breathing techniques,
exercise, medications, home
healthcare, lung transplants,
pollution, smoking and more.
Caregivers are also welcome
to attend all meetings.
Monthly meetings for 2016

Understanding human
migration talk offered

History Center & Museum
and Cameron M. Smith, of
Portland State University,
on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7
p.m. for a presentation on
human migration, the topic
of Smith’s latest book “At-
las of Human Prehistory.”
Smith has published
several books on varying
topics from evolution to
space exploration. He has
a doctorate in archaeolo-
gy from Canada’s Simon
Fraser University and is a
respected scholar, who has
published scienti¿c works
in the American Journal
of Physical Anthropology
Magazine, South Ameri-
can (xplorer, SpaceÀight,
Skeptical Inquirer, The
Next Step, The Bulletin of
Primitive Technology, and
in Scienti¿c American. He
has also appeared on PBS,
The History Channel, and
on the National Geographic
Channel.

Winter blues concert
coming to History Center
On Friday, Feb. 26, at 7
p.m. the Cannon Beach His-
tory Center & Museum wel-
comes an American great,
Lauren Sheehan.
Sheehan is a multi-talent-
ed blues and folk musician.
She plays guitar, mandolin,
and banjo while singing.
Sheehan is considered a char-
ismatic interpreter of songs
learned from some of Amer-
ica’s greatest folk and blues
artists.
Sheehan studied classical
guitar as a child and became
infected by the spirit of the
¿ddle. She wrote her thesis
at Reed College on American
Folk music before spending
a number of years playing in
small ensembles. She brings
a passion and knowledge to
each performance that adds a
feeling of authenticity.
In 2015, Sheehan released
two new albums “Lauren
Sheehan: Songster Roots of
Americana” and another al-
bum that she did with her
daughter called “Tillamook
Burn,” which reached num-
ber six on folk radio. She has
performed all over the United
States, and appeared on the
nationally syndicated radio
show “River City Folk.”

Sheehan’s third full-length
release. She is also a regular
at the Portland Waterfront
Blues Festival. Seating is lim-
ited. Tickets are $12 for adults
and $2 for children. Compli-
mentary snacks and wine will
be available. All proceeds
will help fund upcoming
events at the History Center
including future concerts, lec-
tures, exhibits, and ¿eld trips.

Stroke support group in Seaside
Providence Seaside Hos-
pital presents a stroke support
group the second Wednesday
of each month. The next meet-
ing will be held March 9. At-
tendees will meet in the educa-
tion center of the hospital from
1:30 to 2:30 p.m. There is no
charge to attend.
All stroke survivors, care-
givers and family members
are welcome to join the Sea-
side Rebounders, a monthly
stroke support group. Share
stories while gaining support
from other stroke survivors
and family members.
