Flair dedicates shop, provides donation Anticipating impact
Flair shop owner Jay
Shepard and manager Lin-
da Saucedo hosted an event
to celebrate the store’s of-
¿cial dedication 0onday
night. The evening had a
dual purpose, with the pre-
sentation of a $3,000 check
to the North Coast Land
Conservancy. The funds
will be used to support the
conservancy’s
programs
and initiatives, including
the Coastal Edge and Bone-
yard Ridge acquisition.
“We were looking for a
partner as part of our give
back program and donate a
portion of our revenue to a
charitable organization we
felt really strongly about,
stable and worked in the
local area,” Shepard said.
“We’re going to support the
future of the Oregon coast
in perpetuity. Every stream
starts with a small drop, we
hope the small amount we
can do will help at least to
spread the word, it’s big for
us being a little store.”

non Beach shop donates 2 percent of gross sales to the North Coast Land Conservancy.
Join climatologist John
Stevenson as he kicks off the
2016 season of Listening to
the Land presentations, fo-
cused on the theme of wa-
ter. “Climate Change and
the Coast” begins at 6 pm
on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at
the Seaside Public Library.
Admission is free. Refresh-
ments will be served.
A warming climate is
already affecting life in
Oregon, according to Ste-
venson. Higher seas will
mean changes to the shore-
line and damage to coastal
structures. The impacts are
being felt upstream too, in
the watersheds that support
our fisheries, and across the
mountains where most Ore-
gonians live.
Stevenson is a regional
extension climate specialist
with Oregon Sea Grant and
the Climate Impacts Re-
search Consortium, where
102.3 fm
he facilitates community ad-
aptation to climate-driven
changes in coastal hazards,
water resources, and forest
disturbance. Previously he
worked with Portland-based
Ecotrust to map critical fish-
ing grounds off the Oregon
Coast in a process to site
renewable ocean energy. Be-
fore moving to Oregon, Ste-
venson worked on fisheries
and ocean planning issues
for NOAA in Silver Springs,
Maryland. He has a master’s
degree in marine resource
management from Oregon
State University.
Listening to the Land
is a monthly winter speak-
er series offered January
through May and presented
by North Coast Land Con-
servancy and the Necani-
cum Watershed Council in
partnership with the Seaside
Public Library. Learn more
