New volunteer training
scheduled at the Harbor
Volunteer training with the
Harbor begins Tuesday, Sept.
29. Class will be held Tues-
days and Thursdays from 5:30
to 8:30 p.m. Come learn the
basics in compassionate com-
munication, crisis intervention,
active listening, the impact of
oppression on individuals and
communities, domestic vio-
lence and the law and more.
The training includes educa-
tors from the Harbor as well
as experienced guest speakers
from the community.
Volunteer opportunities
are available at the shelter,
Suspect sought after credit card theft
The Cannon Beach Po-
lice Department is seeking
the public’s help in identi-
fying a male suspect in a
case of theft and fraudulent
use of a credit card.
Corporal Joseph Bow-
man said the victim’s purse
was stolen in Cannon Beach
on Aug. 1 and that her card
was used at a Walmart in
Tigard. The purse was lat-
er found at a Fred Meyer in
the Newberg area.
The suspect is a white
male with short, brown
hair.
At the time of the fraud-
ulent purchases, he was
wearing sandals with a
checkered pattern on the
during community events
and special projects. Some
volunteers work in the Har-
bor’s client service of¿ce,
Déjà Vu’s donation center,
and as ongoing advocates
for individuals accessing
services.
All volunteers will need
to attend the ¿rst training.

depending on the type of
volunteer position. Contact

Author J.A. Jance to speak at library
The Cannon Beach Li-
brary will sponsor a presen-
tation by author J.A. Jance,
Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m.
The event, held at the Coast-
er Theater, across the street
from the library, is free and
open to the public. Books
will be available for sale
through the Cannon Beach
Book Company.
Jance brings together two
beloved protagonists together
in “Dance of the Bones.” Two
cold cases over 1.500 miles
apart suddenly become red-
hot and connected.
Jance is the author of the J.
Beaumont series, the Joanna
Brady series, the Ali Reynolds
series, and the Walker Family
series. Over twenty million
copies of her books are in
print. Jance lives with her hus-
band in Seattle and Tucson.

8 p.m. Ecola Park Road: traffic
complaint. An officer responded
to Ecola Park Road for report of a
traffic complaint. The reporting
person stated there were six ve-
hicles speeding down Ecola Park
Road yelling. The officer arrived
to the area and was unable to
locate the vehicles.

Friday, Aug. 28
12:56 a.m. Tolovana Inn
parking: fugitive. Subjects were
contacted for overnight camping
and a male subject was taken into
custody on possession of a con-
trolled substance and multiple
warrants.
9:12 p.m. 3300 block of South
Hemlock Street: trespass. Report
of an unwelcome customer. The
subject had left prior to officer ar-
rival. The restaurant was advised
to call if the customer returned.

Caller reported a stolen purse.
Credit cards were later used in
the metro area.
12:10 p.m. Tolovana Wayside:
property crime. Police responded
to theft of property.
6:17 p.m. Highway 101 north
entrance: DUII. Subject was ar-
rested for DUII with two children
in the vehicle.
2:02 p.m. 3000 block of
Pacific Street: minor in posses-
sion-alcohol. Report of minors
intoxicated. One male was cited
for minor in possession-alcohol
consumption and transported to
Providence Seaside Hospital.
6:24 p.m. 100 block of North
Hemlock Street: hit-and-run. Sea-
side police took information for
a vehicle hit-and-run while the
Cannon Beach officer was on a
priority run.

12:53 p.m. Mile marker 31 of
Highway 101: traffic complaint.
Police responded to report of a
careless driver.
10:53 p.m. 100 block of East
Van Buren: disturbance. The call-
er reported a neighbor using an
electric saw late at night. The par-
ty agreed to shut it down.

Aug. 2
6:39 p.m. 1200 block of South
Hemlock Street: trespass. An offi-
cer contacted the unwanted sub-
ject and warned them about their
behavior. The subject was later
provided a courtesy ride out of
city limits.
10 a.m. 200 block of North
Spruce Street: theft. A handheld
game system was reported sto-
len.
2:32 p.m. 1400 block of South
Hemlock Street: property crime.
Guests reported theft of property
that occurred within a half hour

access: accident. A vehicle was
struck at the downtown beach

1:34 p.m. Spruce Street pub-
lic parking: hit-and-run. A vehicle
hit a parked car and left the area.
A witness reported the incident.

9:32 p.m. beach: fireworks
offense. Subjects were warned
for fireworks.
There were 88 illegal camping violations
and nine animal complaints, including dogs
in hot cars, barking dogs and dogs at large.
