Local station marks National Radio Day
Coast Community Radio
will be celebrating National
Radio Day on August 20. This
event honors radio broadcasts
in the United States. WWJ in
Detroit 0ich. was the ¿rst
radio station in the world to
broadcast regularly scheduled
programs starting on Aug.
20, 1920. Everyone is encour-
aged to participate and appre-
ciate the importance of radio.
The invention of the ra-
dio dates back to the late
1800s. To make the radio a
reality, it required a number
of different inventions and
discoveries including both
transmission and reception
methods as well as technol-
ogy. To celebrate National
Radio Day, listen to Coast
Community Radio stations
and give a special recogni-
tion to your local radio per-
sonalities.
Aug. 20 is also Nation-
al Lemonade Day. Join the
station at 14th Street and
Exchange Street in Astoria
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for
a dose of radio and a tall
glass of lemonade.
Coast Community Ra-
dio broadcasts along the
Oregon and Southwest
Washington coast. Listen
at KMUN 91.9 Astoria,
KTCB 89.5 Tillamook,
