In the present drive for war
savings stamps the government
puts it up to us all to make smal
economies toward a great cause.
The Liberty bond issues call up
on us to look ahead and balance
the difference between income
and outgo, and figuring carefully
to devote the most we can to
ward the purchase of bonds.
After we have done this, the
small savings we can make from
time to time can be turned to
ward thrift and war savings
stamps. It has been suggested
that the interest on the first is
sue of Liberty bonds, falling due
this month, should be put into
war savings stamps. As this in
terest is an amount beyond the
ordinary income, applying it to
this purpose will not be felt as a
deprivation, and the aggregate
amount so applied will be of
great assistance to the govern
ment.

bine with the rest of the mater
ial. Fill a can two-thirds full
and steam lVfc hours. 'Make 1
loaf.
Oat Flour Loaf.
Two cups oat flour, 2Vi t
baking powder, c raisins,
t salt, 2 T haro, 1 egg (well
beaten), 2 T melted fut, 1 c
(more or less) sweet milk.
Mix dry ingredients. Combine
with rest of material. Should
be. medium stiff. Beat thor
oughly for about'.1) minutes.
Put in greased pan, let rise for
15 or 20 minutes, and bake
about 45 minutes.
It is impossible to say defin
itely the amount of liquid to
be used with the substitute
flours, because of lack of uni
formity. Some are coarser than
others. '
The substitute flours require
more baking powder than the
others.
