PLAN STANDARD WAGE!
I
United fnm
Washington, May 31. Stand
ardization of wages of common
and unskilled labor to halt the
enormous labor turnover that is
slowing up war work throughout
the country, was under consider
ation today by the department of
labor.
Such a move is essential to
equal distribution of the present
labor supply officials of the de
partment say, because of varying
wage rates and inequality of
houring conditions.
Under the standardized wage
plan, a carpenter, for instance,
would get the same wage in Ore
gon as in New Jersey.. This
would automatically take away
the temptation to large groups of
men to concentrate in one district
at the expense of others.
MICKIE SAYS
There is an old saying that you
must eat a peck of dirt before j
you die. But do you know that:
to be patriotic you must eatai
bushel of old potatoes this spring.
The fashion in ornaments var
ies. Just now a Third Liberty
Loan button, a War Savings
badge and a Red Cross emblem
make a most desirable combina
tion and one that is much 'worn.

investment and then WATCH IT GROW.
Purtue this policy energetically and systemati
cally and some day you will be rich.

Warning to Fuel Users
We quote the following from U. S. Fuel Admin
istrator Carfield'a order of March 80, 198:
"Every kooeebolder, rnvmy pobhe otUity aod every In
dustrie! near of mi l, earaeeUy advtaed and arced to
place without delay their order, lor teal to cover their
need, (or 12 month beainaisc April let"
We most earnestly advise the public to place
their orders and signify their willingness to ac
cept immediate delivery of their coal require
ments for the coming fall and winter.
We believe there will be great difficulty in sup
plying good coal later in the season and. that
many consumers will either, be short of coal or
will of necessity be obliged to burn inferior and
low grade coals, which will prove extremely unsatisfactory.
