The boys from Gilliam county who Are in France are deeply in terested in things at home. They want to know all that is doing. Relati ves cannot write them all these ihings but they can clfp items from the home paper and send them over in a letter. Al though the Globe is gent every week to all the boys in France whose addresses have been se cured, a newspaper may go astray or the address become obliterat ed. There are such accumula tions of newspapers that it i sometimes weeks before the bojs get their papers. The Globe will continue to be sent, and many of the ttoys are getting it, but we suggest that' people writing jto any of the boys insert cuppings in their letters. It is the home paper, next to the letter from home, which brings the greatest comfort to the boys. ! ' Sales of war-savings stamps have run as high as $3,000,000 a day. This amount provides the Treasury with about one tenth of the entire amount now being expended by the Nation for the war. ' While $3,000,000 is only 8 tents a. day for every man. woman and child in the country, tho entire cost of the war Is but 30 cents per capita a day. I Don't Knock the Chautauqua The chautauqua has become an annual event in Condon and jap such is being looked forward to. One or two people have said that this year, with our country rat war, the chautauqua should jbe discontinued. That is a mistaken idea. People who believe that way should read President Wil son's letter on another page. The chautauqua is a builder of patriot' ism and, by the request of (he government, will be more so this year. The people want it and if it doesn't come to' Condon mtiny people will go from this town to attend at some other place. Last year every ticket was sold, more than enough in fact, and almost the required number have been signed for this year. If any man r woman is patriotic he or she vill not be heard knocking the chautauqua. Buy a Liberty Bond April 6.!
