Co-operation Necessary
to Success
Gilliam county now hnt an
agricultural agent. He ia here
to help; he is paid for it and is
anxious to take off his coat and
go to it. But ;ha cannot be ex
pected to do it alone. That part
of his salary paid by the county
will get us nothing unless he has
the co-operation of t'ue taxpayers.
Being human, he will make mis
takes but it will be the biggest
kind of a mistake on the part of
the taxpayers to refuse to CO;
operate with him or to give him
only passive co-operation. Active
assistance is what oar agent
needs; if he gets it be will do his
part and earn his salary twice
over. There are many things to
be done in Gilliam. Let's go to
it with him the way we should
and make it a better county.
Letters Interesting
to Everyone
The Globe likes to publish ex
tracts from the letters which our
soldier boys are sending home
because tbey give a viewpoint of
certain conditions not obtainable
from other sources. The boys do
not see things alike and some
times their judgment is clearly
at variance with what the train
ed newspaper correspondents
give us. The trained newspaper
reporters see beneath the surface
and interpret what they see. The
boys simply tell us what they see.
Their letters are most interesting
and make good and instructive
reading.
Plan for the Fair
Condon is to have her annual
spring race meet May 29, 30, 31
and June 1 and we will again cele
brate the Fourth of July and the
chautauqua at the same time.
Let us not forget the county fair
next fall for it is just as import
ant although further away.
For many years now we have
laid great stress on the right!
and privileges of the American
citizen, partly forgetting or ig
noring the fact that with every
right or privilege there is also a
duty. In the past we have not
been required to give our full at
tention to these duties but it is
different now and w should be
just as conscientious in giving
our attention now hs we have
been insistent in demanding our
rights and privileges.
Be a Booster
Be a booster, not a boaster.
The boaster proudly calls atten
tion to what we have but the
booster culls attention to what
we can have if we display suffl
cient energy. The boaster situ
io the trench and ia satisfied
with his nice bright bayontt but
the booster goes over the top to
get some color on his steel
Which are you? Get under the
load.

Spring? March 21.
The people are perfectly will
ing to live on substitutes if tht
substitutes are available. A
soon, however, as a substituted
suggested, the price of that ar
ticle emulates the airship. When
fixing a price on wheat the gov
ernment might give great relief
by also fixing prices on the sub
stitutes. Billy Sunday is reported to havt
come $16,000 short of expense
is his Wsshlngton campaign.
Billy should remember that while
the hell he is advising men t
shun may be a verity, Washington
just now is engaged in making
war on a hell much more real and
menacing.
Lovers of the succulent cabbagt
properly fermented can now
indulge their appetites withou'
suspicion of disloyalty. There i
no longer any kraut. "Libert)
cabbage" takes its place.
It has been asserted that the
recent display of the Northern
Lights was providentially sent
to light the Hohenzollerns and
Hapsburgs farther on their way
to hell.
Perhaps when Hindenburg an
nounced his intention to be ir.
Paris by April first he didn't
contemplate taking hii armies
along. Better watch the roads
for tramps.
One congressman comjlains
that there is not enough to do in
CanoreBB to keen him buv. We
suggest that he resign his office
and help Hoover.
Those Germans hunting for
the American sector in France
had the success of the boy hunt
ing for a hornet's nest. They
found it.
Austria wonders what she is
fighting for. The kaiser could
enlighten her but he is pretty
busy these days praying for
more assistance.
The war seems to have reduced
every resour.ee of the kaiser except
his family. That still remains in
tact Hohenzollern patriotism is
of the safe variety.
The wool shortage might be
relieved scire what by ctrrman
deering all that the politiciens
are accustomed to pull over the
people's eyes.
What doth it profit ft man to
plant a garden and lose it via his
neighbor's chickens?
The water wagon is fast be
coming an even more popular ve
hicle than the auto.
When some people talk it ia
easy to discover that their tongue
is hung to a chunk of solid ivory.
A garden is your physician's
most valuable and trusted assist
ant. Patriotic people prepare to
pungle.
