Some idea of the size of mod
ern ships is given by the fact
that the Imperator, on a recent
voyage, carried 3,649 passengers
and a crew numbering 1,832,
making 4,981 in all.
It has been suggested that if
the government would send
doughnuts to Mexico instead of
dreadnaughts, it would be more
to the liking of the Americans
there.
Good Money in Raising Pigs
Eight pigs, six months, 1632
pounds, 1123. This is a con
densed story of what has been
accomplished by a farmer at
Independence, Oregon. Each
p;g was six months o!d and aver
aged 204 pounds, making an
avernpe value of f 15.38 per pig
or $2.56 per month per pig.
"Never let your pigs make hogs
of themselves," is the advice of
a prominent expert in urging
farmers to hurry the growth of
their pigs and thus get them to
market when from six to nine
months old. What this farmer
did at Independence can be done
in this county just as well and
should be done. It means prog'
parity to any farmer who does
it.
Give Your Farm a Name
' In the east almost every farm
has a name, even little patches
of only eight or ten acres. It is
a good idea. To describe your
farm only by the numbers of the
land i3 hardly enough. If
farmer does not have some other
means ot identification for his
farm it would seem to indicate
that he does not have much pride
in his place. There are very few
farms in this county which are
named, The Wheatdale Stock
Farm, Poplar Farm, Fairview
Buckhorn and the Plateau Farms
being about the only ones and it
is probable that the only one of
these that is recorded is the first
It is well that every farmer
should give his farm some
characteristic name.
The declaration of President
Wilson that the United States
will recognize only such govern
ments as rest on the consent of
the governed seems to be all that
could be desired.

The readers of this paper will be
Dleased to learn that there is at least
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cures in all its stages, and
thatis cataarh. Hall's cataarh cure is
the only positive cure now known to
the medical fraternity. LataHrh being
a constitutianal disease, requires a con
stitutional treatment. Hall's Cataarh
cure is taken internally, acting direct
ly upon the blood and mucous surfaces
of the system, thereby destroying the
foundation of the disease, and giving
the patient strength by building up the
constitution and assisting nature in do
ing itt work- The proprietors have so
much faith in its curative power that
they offer One Hundred Dollars for any
case that it tails to cure.
