pondence) John Jewel, who
has been working on Plateau
Farm No. 2, was severely in
jured on Friday of lat week by
a delayed blast of dynamite. Mr.
Jewell was digging a reservoir
and had dri led a hole in which
he put bne stick of the giant
powder. lie lit the fuse and re
treated to a safe distance, ex
pectins it to explode but it did
not and after waiting only a few
minutes he went to the hole and
was lookirg c'oA-n into it when
the powder exploded. His face
was severely cut and bruised and
his right ye very badly injured.
hr. Wilholm was called from
Condon and removed the pieces
of rock and dirt from his eyo and
face. Mr. Jewell is getting alcng
as well as can be expected.
Polk McPherson was a Condon
visitor from Clem the first of the
week.

the roundhouse Monday night
the air brake refused to work
and the engine crashed through
the rear of the shed. The dam

Rare Treat
in Store for
Local People
A care treat in store for the
people of Condon and vicinity is
the High School play to be given
on Friday evening, February 28,
at the Condon Athletic Club
opera house. The play is a
farcical comedy in three acts en
titled "Blundering Billy." Ev
erybody should attend and have
scores of hearty laughs at Billy's
expense. This comedy Is a hum
mer, lively, and laughable. The
cist of characters is as follows:

Door of Elevator as It Starts
and Injuries
Portland. Feb. 20,-Sad in all
the circumstances that surround
ed it was an accident which oc
cured at 3:30 o'clock Tuesday
afternoon at the Knickerbocker
Apartments, and which resulted
in the death of little Tom Bow
erman, one of tho twin sons of
Mr. and Mrs. Jay Bowerman,
formerly cf Condon. While hjs
father was away at Salem and
his mother out paying a call, the
lad was crujhed betwen the
elevator and the wall bo badly
that he died soon afterwards. He
was exactly 2 years eld.

CIRL DIM CANADA
Beulah Barker, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Barker, for
merly of this city, died in tbe
hospital at Medicine Hat, Can
ada on Wednesday night. Mr.
Barker was in this city and re
ceived the sad news yesterday.
He left this moring, with Mrs.
Stephens, for their Canadian
home. Beulah was 14 years old
and had been a cripple for sev
eral years but was cheerful and
winsome in spite of her great
affliction. The family has many
friends here who sympathize
with them in their bereavement.
