From the Fossil Journal Fred Baker, chauffeur on the Fossil-Condon stage, moved his family from Condon to Fossi last week. They are occupying the Carl house opposite the Stockman store. The fire at the livery barn last Monday, which was caused by a careless chambermaid kindling a fire to thaw out a pipe con necting with a watering trough, reminds Alex Marshall, so he says, of the time when Loyd Parman of Condon had the bot torn of his tank burned out with 5000 gallons of water in it. Mrs. Evan Anderson requests us to state that it was not she. but a neighbor woman, who had her husband arrested during their little quarrel last week, when she paid his fine and bore him home in triumph, and we cheerfully make this correction. This week she has been helping him with his papering work in the hotel building.and they seem to be getting along like cooing doves. At a depth of 98 feet, Jamieson & Marshall, the Condon well drill ers, struck water Tuesday eve ning in the well they were drill ing for Jas. S. Stewart on his residence property in Fossil. Drilling was continued until Thursday noon to a total depth of 120 feet when a test was made and it was found impossible to pump the water out with the pump in use,, the capacity of which is ten gallons per minute. When the drill was abstracted from the well it was found that the water had risen to within 5 feet of the top. Since then it risen slowly until it is nearly to the top and is continuing to rise at the rate of six inches per day, and if it continues to rise it will soon be flowing out over the top and will then be an artesian well. Geo. Clark has signed a con tract to have a well drilled by this firm, work on which is to be commenced December 6th.
