A quiet marriage took place
last Sunday morning at the
Latter Day Saints Church in
this city when Heman C. Nor
wood and Lillie May Amend
were joined in the holy bonds of
matrimony. Elder J. H. Amend,
father of the bride, officiated.
Only the members of the bride's
family and the Immediate friends
of the groom were present.
Both parties are well known in
this vicinity and have a host of
friends who wish them a happy
future.

Miss Florence McConnell and
Jay W.ight both of Mayville
were married lost Sunday at the
home of the bride's mother, Rev.
Black of Fossil officiating. The
young people are well iffta favor
ably known and their many
friends wish them a happy and
prosperous future. They are
spending the week in Portland.

Kenneth Welshons and Bessie
Searcy were quietly married at
the home of the bride's parents
yesterday morning at ten o'clock

The groom is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. Geo. Welshons of Clem, and
the bride is a daughter of Mr.
Mrs. Al Searcy of this city.
'The young couple will begin
Ihouskeeping at once on a ranch
.owned by the groom's father,
near Clem. They have a host
of friends in this section and the
Globe joins in wishing them a
happy future.
Brummette-Walsh
J.H.Brummette and Mrs.Katie
Walsh were married at the Chris
tian church at Jasper, Oregon,
on Sunday, December 13, Rev.
E. G. Callison 'officiating. Mr.
and Mrs. Brummette expect to
return to this section some time
next month. The Globe joins
with their many friends in ex
tending congratulations.
Married
At the home of the bride's
parents, near Fossil, on Sunday
last, George Ray, Ex-Sheriff of
Wheeler county, and Miss Bessie
Thompson, a daughgter of Mr.
and Mrs. W.S.Thompson, highly
respected pioneers of Wheeler
county. Mr. Ray is at present
the Bookkeeper at the Gilliam
Co. Bank in this city and the
young couple will make this town
their home. They are at present
keeping house at the Jay Bower
man home and are already at
home to their friends. Both
parties are general favorites
among those who have made their
aquaintance and the Globe joins
their many friends in wishing
them a Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year and also a pros
perous future.
Carwell Dams was the lucky
one at the guessing contest at
Farr Bros, meat market yester
day. A steer was hung up in
the market and everybody given
a free guess at its weight and
the one guessing the nearest to
get a twelve pound turkey.
The guesses ranged from 120 to
2000 lbs. Actual weight 479 lbs.
r Christmas trees delighted the
school children last Wednesday
afternoon and each pupil was
given an assortment of candy
and nuts to ea,t during the vaca
tion.; A tree' and a short pror
gram was held at the Congre
gational church and those pres
ent were also given candy and
nuts. 1
Mrs. Elizabeth Smith Maliy
Died at her homo in Ferry
Canyon Monday from an attack
of paralysis.
Deceased was born in Glascow,
Scotland, February 14th, 1837.
In 184'J she, with her parents,
came to Lawrence, Masachusetts,
where she was married in 1857
to William Farrar. To this union
five children were born, two of
whom are still living, W. K. Far
rar of Corvullis and Mrs. Agnes
Palmer of Ajax. They lived in
Gross Valley, California, from
1857 to 18G9 when Mr. Farrar
died. In 1870 she, with her
children, came to Linn County,
Oregon. In June, 1871, she was
married to Samuel Maley, who
crossed the plains in 1845. To
this union three children were
born, all of whom are living: W.
B. Maley of Corvallis and Oscar
and E. C. Maley of Condon. In
1886 they moved to Gilliam Coun
ty where Mr. Maley died in 1888.
A brother and two sisters sur
vive her: R. L. Smith of, Cor
vallis, Mrs. Wm. Cliftof Oakland
California, and Mrs. Agnes Col
lins of Condon. The funeral was
held in Ferry Canyon Wednes
day Rev. E. Curran corxlucting
the services.

C. W. Martin, one of the pio
neers of Gilliam county, died at
his home on Rock Creek at three
o'clock Wednesday morning.
The funeral was held yesterday
and the body interred in the
Olex cemetery. Deceased was
the father of Mrs. Grant Wade,
Ray Martin, Charlie Martin and
Mis3 Gertrude Martin, all of
whom live near Olex. Rev. E.
Curran conducted the services.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Selby were in
town Monday from Pine Ridge.
Prof. Sturgill is visiting in
Baker City.
Miss Seeley, of the public
schools is visiting at the P. J.
Mulkey home near Rock Creek.
Dr. Butler and family are
spending Christmas in Olex.
The Wheat City Orchestra are
planning a grand New Year's
ball to be held in the skating
rink, Thursday evening, Decem
ber 31st and everybody is most
cordially invited to attend. This
orchestra is now the best in this
part of the country aid it is
worth the price of admission
alone to hear the concert. The
skating rink is now the best hall
in this section and every effort
will be put forth to make this
dance a repetition of the glorious
time to be had at the big dance
tonight, for which the same or
chestra will furnish the music.
The public schools were closed
Wednesday for ten days.
John Gibbons is spending the
holidays with his sister, Mrs. J.
W. Miller of Albany.
