NEWS OF THE WEEK
Mrs. J. A. Scott left Monday
morning for a few days visit in
Portland.
Mrs. Dora Crossan, who has
been here for some time visiting
her parents, left Tuesday for
her home in Salrm.
F. T. Hurlburt made a flying
business trip to Arlington on
Tuesday.
J. N. Sturgill and family of
Baker City arrived in this city
Monday for a couple of days'
visit at the home of Supt J. C.
Sturgill. They left Wednesday
for North Beach.
Dan Thouvenel returned from
Portland Tuesday evening and
will probably remain in Condon
this winter.
Zim Ebbert spent a few days
in The Dalles the fore part of
the week.
Marshall Sweetin of Arlington
came up Monday evening and
brought with him a new boarder
for the county jail The prison
er, whose name is Terry Hope,
had been working on the Chas.
Martin ranch near Olex for a
week or two and on the first
night he was there stole a pocket
book and $55 from his fellow
workman, Marcus Bolton. On
last Saturday he quit work and
started on foot for Arlington ar
riving there about ten o'clock in
the evening and was taken into
custody by Marshall Sweetin.
He was given a hearing Monday
morning before Justice Collins
and plead not guilty, saying that
he had found the money. He is
now in the County jail awaiting
the decision of the Circuit Court

Mayville Monday to meet his
wife and daughter who have

C J. Scriber of LaGrande was
a visitor in Pendleton this week
while on his way to Condon to
care for business affairs. East

J. B. GofF of Lone Rock was in
this city Tuesday.
J. F. Reisacher left Wednes
day for a few days visit in
Portland.
Dr. and Mrs. J. F. Wood and
family left Wednesday for The
Dalles, where they will visit
several days, after which they
will go to Portland for a short
visit
J. A. McMorris left Wednes
day for Dayton, Wn., where he
will visit with his parents for a
couple of weeks. He will also
visit in Walla Walla and Pome
roy before returning.

Proposals Wanted.
The undersigned, in behalf of
the Gilliam County Improvement
Association, hereby invite the sub
mission of sites for the location of
the proposed dry farm experiment
station to be conducted under the
auspices of the Oregon Agricultur
al College co-operating with theU.
S. Government Agricultural De
partment. Sites to consist of not
less than 320 acres of land, said
land to be located not under 800
feet nor over 1600 feet above sea
level, to be comparatively level,
deep soil, convenient to transpor
tation and to have necessary water
for domestic purposes. A cash
rental proposition for a twenty-
year term will be considered, as
will one to rent for one year with
privilege to purchase for cash.
