A good story I told of a prominent
society woman it Newport whose nam
cannot for obvlom reasons be given
here.
It appears that an extremely wealthy
matron wbo has not always enjoyed
ber present social pre-eminence was
making certain supercilious reference
as to a young girl who bad been pre
sented by the. lady first mentioned.
"By tb way," languidly aiked the
wealthy matron, "who Is your friend
Miss Blankr
"atlas Blank Is a charming girl," was
the smiling response, "well bred, as
yon see, accomplished, entertaining."
"Oh, yes, of course,"' continued the
other, "but, my desr Mrs. So-and-so,
you know what I mean who Is shel"
"My dear woman," retorted the first
lady, "I can no more tell you who Miss
Blank I than I could bare Informed
those who naked me who 'you were
when you first came to Newport"
