Condon has exceptional edu
cauonal advantages, ihe new
Catholic academy will not only
give the city additional educa
. tional advantages but will benefit
it from a commercial point of
view. The same thincr mav be
said of the county high school
The academy at present is quite
small but the time is not far dis
tant when several hundred pu-
" pils will be in attendance. With
an increasing enrollment, will
follow higher standard of scholar
ship. Catholics throughout this
section of Eastern Oregon will
send their children to be educa
: ted here. Others eager to pro
vide a strong liberal education
for their children will accomp
any them to Condon; still others
will move to various sections
within easy distance from the
county seat to engage in farm
ing ana stock-raising. Witn an
influx of immigration will come a
greater Condon.
The County high school, too,
has a future before it Small as
it is this year, it is to grow in
efficiency and the quality of its
work is to become higher as the
years go on. Altogether the
prospects for growth for Condon
are promising because of its
educational advantages.
"If I am elected President
I propose to devote all the
ability that is in me to the
constructive work of sugges
ting to Congress the means
by which the Roosevelt poli
cies shall be clinched. "
Hon. Wm. H. Taft.
At Sandtuky, Ohio, September 8, 1908
Teddy Roosevelt, Jr., has
reached his majority and will
cast his first vote in November,
If he craved notoriety, he could
electrify the nation by his an
nouncement of a purpose to .vote
for Bryan and Kerrr --
A Russian prince is about to
marry an American singer. He
may, be marrying her for her
voice but in most of these alli
ances it is the money that talks.
Seven is said to be a lucky
number so that superstitious folk
are sure that one of the seven
candidates for President is sure
to be elected.
The famous physicians in ses
sion m Washington at present
are studying tuberculosis cures
but a week later they will be
looking up cures for indigestion,
After all Washington is rather
indifferent over presidential mat
ters. She has to take any old
president the rest of the country
may wish to choose for her.
Stand up and shout for a great
er and bigger Condon! Be a
booster, a real live one. ,
We no sooner get through

The rain of last week although
very slight had the effect of
bringing the geese to the Colum
bia river. Up to that time but
few had been seen but according
to the latest reports they are
coming in now thick and fast
It was reported some time ago
that the farmers along the river
would allow no shooting on their
lands on account of gates being
left open and promiscuous shoot
ting by would-be sportsmen, but
it is probable that with the ex
ception of these, hunting will be
allowed there as usual Several
Condon sports are expecting to
leave to-morrow for the hunting
grounds.
