Mis. Ethel Dennis returned
Monday evening from a month's
visit with relatives and friends
in Pendleton and Walla Walla.
Harold Hunt left Wednesday
morning for Portland to visit his
sister Mrs. Travis for a few days
before going to Salem to attend
the state fair. From Salem Har
old wilt go on to Eugene to fin
ish his last year at the state
university.
The Oregon City Courier con
tains an extensive account of
the Couture-Adams nuptials sol
emnized at Oregon City a week
ago Wednesday. The affair was
a most elaborate function over
three hundred invitations having
been sent out The ceremony
which united ; Miss Charlotte
Adams and Stephen B. Couture
in marriage was pronounced by
the Right .Reir. Father Abbott
Thomas, of the Mt Angel Mon
astery, the ring ceremony adding
much to the impressiveness of
the occasion. There were a num
ber of guests from Portland ar.d
some of Oregon - City's most
prominent people participated in
the event The bride was the
recipient of many beautiful gifts.

home on Monday from a month's
visit with Miss Maud Coffin in

The regular council meeting
which was to be he Id last Mon
day was postponed until next
Monday evening on account of
the absence of several of the
councilmen.
The Ladies' Aid Society of the
Congregational church is plan
ning to serve a supper oh Thurs
day Sept 17, beginning at 5:30
in the afternoon in one of the
vacant buildings opposite the
Gilliam County bank. A fine
menu will be served for 35 cents
and the affair will be worth at
tending. An "Apron Sale" will
be held during the afternoon.

ful southern drama, was admir
ably portrayed by the Walters &
Christ Co., at the local play
house last evening before a
large and appreciative audience.
The play should be called
"Roanoke" for it is the central
character of the piece. Miss

'Dora Thome' was portrayed
well at the Vogt last night to an
appreciative audience. Every
character was so well taken that
it is not possible to say which
one was the best. The play is
full of heart interest and thril
