What the New Road Will Do.
All of the central Oregon dis
trict from Condon south and
tributary to the proposed line of
the Wasco County Electric s
Water Tower company will be
vastly benefited by the new line,
according to J. E. Hunt, former
state senator from Multnomah
county and now a prominent
hardware merchant of Condon
"There are now about four
towns in Eastern Oregon that
can beat Condon out a little bit,'
said Mr. Hunt last night, but if
that road is completed as soon as
it is said it will be, there will be
none that Condon can not boast
over within a couple of year;
It is to be the terminal of the
new line and will naturally be
the center of a large trading
business as soon as the road is in
ojieration and the produce of the
country is moved over it.
"Adiacenttothe new line as
it is now proposed are vast wheat
fields, immense stock ranges,
coal deposits and gold mining
districts. All of these products
will be brought on the road to
Condon, the terminal of the line
and the town will prosper be
cause of the added trade.
"But it is not to Condon alone
that the line will be a benefit,"
continued Mr. Hunt "The whole
district will be the gainer. The
wheat of the country, tho stock,
the coal, which is of good quality,
and the gold ore. will all be
shipped out over the line and be
able to find a market where it is
now Dractically impossible be-
cause of the rugged nature of the
countrv and the lack of trans
nortation."
(
Mr. Hunt is enthusiastic over
the future of that section and
savs it will be one of the best
parts of the state as soon as the
last spike of rail transportation
is driven and the new line is
open to traffic Oregon Sunday

FAIRS FOR FARMERS.

At The Dalles.
Large, noisy, posters have
been scattered the past week
thrnno-hout this section announ
cing the annual fair to be held
at the Dalles, October 6 to 10,
inclusive. The posters are re
plete with attractions, some of
which may not take place but if
the fair of a year ago is taken as
a criterion there will be plenty
of amusement for all. The king
of Oregon street fair entertain

tract "to deliver the goods" in
the amusement line and will.have
charge of the street carnival
