Hayes Marble returned last
Friday from a month's vacation
and visit with relatives in Van
couver. Wash. He and his wife
spent a part of their outing in
camp at Martin's Springs and in
the mountains. Mrs. Marble
yft not return until the middle
of September. '
Rev. Father Cantwell went
to Aberdeen, Wash., Monday to
talk over the plans and new bids
for the new St Thomas Aquinas
School. The first bids submitted
were all too high. A number of
bids have since been presented
and there is little doubt that the
contract will be awarded to one
of the new bidders so that work
may be begun as soon as possible.
Frank E. Edwards, formerly an
instructor at the Oregon Agri
cultural college at Corvallis, is
at the Imperial hotel accompa
nied by his family. Mr. Ed
wards is now living at San Luis
Obispo, Cal. Oregon (Sunday)

Brown left Monday on their

J. E. Hunt the Hardware
man, went to Portland the first
of the week to be gone several
days. Before returning to the
Wheat City, will enjoy the re
freshing sea breezes.
G. E. Ohsfeldt, who has ' been
manager of the Gilliam County
mills, left Condon Monday for
his home in Portland to engage
in the real estate business. The
Globe will visit him each week
and keep him well informed on
happenings in Gilliam county. ,
Edward Curran was in Port
land this week visiting his bro
ther, George, of the British
steamer Ilford which has been
loading lumber consigned to the
old country from the Oresron
port The brothers had not seen
each other for twenty years and
the reunion proved an unsually
happy one.
Dr. and Mrs. B. F. Butler and
little daughter, accompanied by
Mrs. A. T. Clark and Miss Clark
of Monmouth who have been
guests at the Butler home the
past week, left for Newport
Thursday morning for a week's
outing. They were joined at
Arlington by Mr. A. T. Clark
who had gone to Pendleton Sat
urday to superintend the harvest
ing on his ranch near that city.
