EmilStraube, one of Wheeler
county's largest cattle raisers,
started this week for Condon
with two loads of beef cuttle,
which he will ship to the Port
land yards. Spray Courier.
Mrs. Landess, of Cottage
Grove, accompanied by her
daughter, Miss Laura Landess,
were in Condon Friday on their
way to Lone Rock to visit Mrs.
Indess's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
George Boone.
Harry Johnson went to Spray
last Saturday to visit a week
at the home of Dan Hawes
where Mr3. Johnson has been
visiting her sister' for the past
two weeks.
Wm. Brown, a prominent wool
buyer of Salem, was in the city
last week visiting Ellis Purvine
and incidentally sizing-up the
local wool situation. Mr. Brown
deals in wool and mohair and
hops. He left Monday to attend
the wool sales at Shaniko.
The Mystic Shrine held a con
vocation in Portland last week
which was one of the most
largely attended yet held by the
order. Among the Condonites
in attendance were: A. Larson,
Jay Bowerman, and J. F. Reis
acher. Circuit Judge E. V. Lit
tlefleld was a member of the 1908
class and its orator.
County School Superintendent
McArthur who has been visiting
the schools in the Ajax and ad
joining districts, states that in
certain sections reports Were
being circulated that . Condon
would not celebrate the Fourth
because the town had gone "dry"
This was before the last issue of
the Condon papers had reached
the farthermost parts of the
county, since that time the in
vitation has been widely and
effectively extended throughout
Gilliam and neighboring counties.
