Each passing day brings the
great Fourth of July celebration
nearer and the work of the
advertising committee becomes
more and more valuable as
the opening date of the big
event draws near. This week
the local merchants sent broad
cast throughout the county hun
dreds of circulars announcing
the general program of the three
days' festivities and the special
bargains that will be offered to
the buying'public The business
men are working harmoniously
and will do all in their power to
give the visitors of the "Wheat
City" a pleasant and profitable
stay while in Condon.
After a term of four years as
editor of the Grange Bulletin and
state lecturer for the Oregon
Grange, Mrs. Clara H. Waldo
has retired to take her place
among the humble workers of
the organization to which she is
zealously devoted. The value of
, the work accomplished by Mrs.
Waldo is fully appreciated by
the membership of the Patrons
of Husbandry. By word of
mouth and pen, the retiring state
lecturer of the Oregon Grange,
has for four years done valuable
service to the cause of popular
education in this state. She has
visited nearly every grange in
Oregon and has been much in
demand as a speaker at educa
tional gatherings.
"It is predicted," says a Chic
ago periodical, "that after Wm.
J. Bryan is nominated at Den
ver, he will not have a single
daily newspaper to support his
candidacy and that the World,
the Times, the Hearst papers,
the Sun, and the Brooklyn Eagle
will be against him," Well,
Mr. Bryan has done without a
number of these big dailies in
his former campaigns and he
propably will not miss them in
this contest The World and the
Brooklyn Eagle have always
opposed Mr. Bryan 'but suppor
ted Judge Parker in his race for
the presidency. The Hearst
: papers will support the nominees
of the Independence League .
There's no use worrying about
crop prospects, and that the
town has gone dry. Things and
conditions will eventually adjust
themselves and promote -the
growth and prosperity of the
home town. Cheer up and look
pleasant! Stand up and yell for
Condon!
.Another scientist has come for
ward .with the announcement
that the sun is gradually cooling
off and that posterity will freeze
tpdeath; but it is very difficult
' to be much: impressed with such
prognostication when the sum
mer and the iceman are both
here.
Attention is called to the fact
,that no improvement has been
made in fish hooks in 200 years.
The same is true of fish .stories.
' Tell it to your neighbor; ask
him to pass it on "Condon will
celebrate the Fourth."
Carrie Nation says that she
will not pay any more fines. Can
it be inferred from this state
ment that she has decided to re
tire from business, or to reform?
