. Horsemen, Attention!
One of the most important
branches of Veterinary Science is
Veterinary Dentistry, and this
department in this country has
been neglected owing to the
scarcity of Veterinarians. The
horse, after he has reached the
age of five years, has a complete
new set of teeth, and as he grows
older and the teeth wear, they
cause numerous diseases and dis
agreeable habits, heretofore
ascribed as constitutional trouble
which have been traced to the
teeth; such as blindness, drolling,
stopping short, starting sudden
ly, frothing, loss of flesh, weak
eyes, driving and pulling on one
rein.
Rough edges and sharp corners
of the teeth lacerate the mouth
and produce nervousness and ir
ritability; uneven and elongated
molars and incisors prevent the
proper mastication of the food,
producing indigestion and gen
eral debility. Decayed molars
causeVnecrosis " of Tthe bone, ab
scesses,, nasal gleet, fistula of
the jaw, etc. - '
