A reader asks the Journal to
describe the process of electing
president and vice-president The
parties hold national conventions
and nominate candidates. The
parties hold state conventions
or congressional district conven
tions and nominate as many pres
idential electors as the state has
senators and representatives in
congress. The electors chosen
by the popular vote of each state
cast their ballots at the state cap
itols next January for the candi
dates of their party for president
and vice president One elector
of each state is chosen to carry
the vote to Washington, where
the envelopes are all opened in
house of representatives, and the
result announced. There is in
no state, as yet, a "primary"
system of nominating electors.

An error made in preparing
my petitions, discovered too late
to correct leaves my name off
the official primary ballot The
only recourse left is to run as an
Independent at the June election.
This I have decided to do.
Am not allied with any exist

co-operate freely with the dis

June concerning all matters that
may subserve the interests of
the people of this district as well
as those of the state at large.
