highest in her class, the eleventh

Miss Mae Hartshorn, who is in
the tenth grade, received the
highest average 96J in the

So they went Into one of the small

while a blf man clumped Into the par

for two or three hours.
The bedroom became very hot, and
the two women wished very leartlly

"I suppose he controls a lot of

bitterly. "This happens Just about
every night 1 have my choice be

kitchen. The dining room opens right
off the parlor, and If I were to stuy
there some politician batching a plot
would think John had put me there

It's worse than being married to a
doctor," she declared.
"The funniest thing 1 ever heard
shout a politician's wife happened In
Boston," she chuckled. "Mr. X., an
Influential citizen with a fine bouse on
Commonwealth avenue, was running
for mayor.
'Mrs. X. was an aristocrat to her
pink finger tips, and It almost drove
her mad to have great herds of the
unwashed come tramping into her fine
house. Finally one evening a delega
tion from heaven knows what vile spot
Invaded the aristocratic mansion.. It
was well received by the benign can
didate, and all went well until the last
man filed out As he went dowu the
dark street it occurred to hjm to turn
around, and there In the full blaze of
electric lights he saw the candidate's
wife opening violently every window
of the house from top to bottom.
"The story went the rounds like wild
fire, and the gentleman from Common
wealth avenue lost the election."

Comfort and Cheerfulness In Tone
Should Be Ita Keynote.
The day of the gloomy library, like
that of the gloomy dining room, has
quite gone by. In fact many people
now make living rooms of their li
braries, for the long rows of bright
colored books make a very cheerful
decoration.
The illustration shows a room where
the bookshelves only reach a trifle over
