CONDON - LARGEST PRIMARY WHEAT SHIPPING POINT III WORLD
Contributes 1,350.000 Bushels of Grain Gilliam County's Crop
Output Reaches 3,350,000 Bushels of Grain Means at
Least $1,750,000 to Be Divided Among the '
Residents of Gilliam County. '
One million,, three hundred
and fifty thousand bushels of
grain is the latest rcjwrt of the
amount of wheat and barley
which will be Bent out into the
world as Condon'a contribution.
This enormous showing makes
Condon the largest primary grain
shipping point to the United
States and no doubt in the world,
since Ritzville, Wn., which has
claimed the record in former
years, has had to give way to the
county seat of Gilliam county.
This statement is no doubt a
great surprise to the majority of
the 0. R. & N., 1.100,000 bu
I shels of wheat and barley have
'already been received, or rather
have been shipped or awaiting
shipment To this must be
added the large amount of grain
which is yet scattered over dif
ferent parts of this vicinity,
waiting to be hauled to town be
fore spring. From the best of
authorities, men who are keep
up with the movement of the
crop, is learned that 250,000 bu
shels will yet find its way to this
station -making the grand total
of 1,350,000 bushels of grain to
... A
from Gilliam county. By add
ing to the last total the, 600, CO')
bushels of( grain which will be
kept at ome for feed and seed,
Gilliam county's wonderful grain
output is summed up at three
million, three hundred and fifty
thousand bushels.
At the average price of 70
cents per bushel, for wheat as
was received this year, and
which made up the greatest
share of the crop output, can
readily be computed the great
wealth of Gilliam . county. It
means that over $1,750,000 will

the people in this section of the
state, as very few persons have
heretofore given this matter a
thought
Ritzville, the little town over
in Washington which claimed the
record of being the largest pri
mary shipping point last year,
was credited as such on a basis
of shipping 1,250,000 bushels.
. This year the crop output was
much smaller, while the territory
feeding Condon was blessed with
the most favorable conditons.
From figures which have been
gathered from the local agent of
be shipped from Condon, - "
No less remarkable is the crop
throughout the remaining sec
tions of Gilliam county, the totals
of the different stations coming
up to more than the amount
to be shipped from this station.
It must also be remembered that
thousands of bushels of grain har
vested along the edges of Gilliam
county, are shipped from near
by railroad points in the adjoin
ing counties and when added to
the above amounts will make the
total of 2,750,000 bushels of grain
that will be sent out broadcast
be received and divided up
among the ranchers of Gilliam
county for their crop alone. To
this large amount can 'be added
the proceeds from other vast re
sources, such as cattle, horses,
sheep, etd, which will prove and
show beyond a doubt Gilliam
county's untold wealth.
To give a ' clearer idea of
this enormous quantity of wheat
to be shipped from Gilliam
county, grind it into flour -and
then bake it into loaves of bread
120,000,000 loaves, which when

How a Cough Starts 2
nnnnAnu, A cough is like a debt in that
both may be easily contracted
but soon become a nuisance
and often mighty hard to get
rid of. It takes very little to
start a cough or cold. An op
en window, an open door, sit
ting in a draught, insufficient
clothing, a sudden change from
a heated interior to a cooler
"atmosphere these and plenty
other reasons are quite suffi
cient to cause one to realize
that a cough or cold has lodg
ed in the system. The symp
toms are slight The incon
venience is trifling. ' But if it
remains unchecked the cough
grows worse and cresentlv it
develops into a downright nuis-
a ance. 1 he (tickling sensation
5 at first experienced is Nature's
5 warning that an irritation is
5 affecting . , the mucous
? membrane lining in the throat
, 5 and bronchial tubes. Every
cough affects- this delicate
membrane. The longer you
cough the more affected it be
comes. Presently the mem
brane becomes inflamed and
congested. Coughing becomes
frequent and . painful, after
which the results become more
direct, dire and disastrous.
It is therefore obvious that an
effective quietus should, at the
very outset, be put upon the
cough. This is best done with
WHITE PINE AND TAR WITH
CODEINE COUGH SYRUP.
