A suggestion has been made
that Speaker Cannon might in
corporate some of the Marquis of
Queensberry rules as a part of
the governing etiquette of the
present house.
An exchange recounts the case
of a Missouri man who sued for
a divorce because his wife threw
onions in the well and naively
wondered "how he found it out"
The chances are that this is one
case where a man from Missouri
did not have to be shown.

One of these women's suffra
gists has discovered that there
are 30,000 women in New York
who support their husbands. We
have always thought that some
thing to New York's advantage
would eventually be discovered,
Last Sunday was the fifty-third
Sunday in. 1907, an occurrence
which will not happen again for
110 years, but by that time most
of us will be paying the penalty
or reaping the reward for the
manner in which we spent the
extra day of rest.
People born in the latter part
of this month were born under
the influence of Aquarius, the
water carrier. The question
arises, "Do they always follow
this influence?"
The month of January derives
its name from the god Janus, who
had two faces looking in oppo
site directions, and the reason it
was named thus was because
from its situation, it might be
considered to be retrospective to
the past and prospective to the
opening year.
The year of 1907 was a record
breaker in Gilliam County and
what is true here is an index in
a proportionate degree of every
county in the state and even of
the territory between the Rocky
Mountains and the Pacific Ocean,
for this great section is the most
prosperous part of America and
will continue to be so. The in
crease in manufactured products
and sales of merchandise were
considerably greater than in 1906.
No other year has brought so
great an immigration. The ex-1
ports and imports, the products
of the dairy, wheat and stock
ranches, those of the orchard,
and every other resource by
which prosperity can be strength
ened, prove an unprecedented
growth and if we will only shake
of this temporary impulse t
hedge, 1908 can be made a still
greater year,
