Wednesday attending to business
matters.
Born to the wife of Dr. J. F.
.Wood, a baby girl, this morning.
J. S. Boyer, the proprietor of
the skating rink who has been
visiting with relatives and friends
at his old home at Independence,
Va., returned Saturday evening.
He also visited in North and
South Carolina and reports a
very good time. Mr. Boyer would
not have returned so soon but
that he received word that
the floor of the skating
rink was in" a bad condition on
account of the damp weather
and he is now fixing it. : He will
return to Virginia in the spring
with, horses.
The ladies of ? the Baptist
church will render a literary
program on Friday evening, Dec
20th at the Armory Hall. They
will also serve lunch after the
program.

Local Banks In Good Standing
As may be seen by three bank
reports in this issue, all the local
institutions are in good financial
condition. In fact the deposits
in all the banks have increased
by thousands of dollars since
their last reports in August, in
dicating that the people of this
city and throughout the county
are placing great confidence in
the local banking institutions.

The registration at present is
over two hundred. .
John Richmond has removed
his family to Condon and Mabel
has entered school. "
Forty-four books were added to
our library this week bo that we
now have a very presentable li
brary, containing one hundred
and fifty volumes.
Many families are moving to
Condon to take advantage of the
opportunities offered by its pub
lic schools, and we have pupils
from all parts of the county en
rolled with us. '
The teachers earnestly-request
the parents and patrons to take
an hour and visit the school, be
lieving that it would benefit all
concerned.
Mrs. A. Case of Haines, Ore.,
arrived in Condon Tuesday night
and is visiting her daughter, Mrs.
J. C. Sturgill.
The County Court of Gilliam will
convene on Monday, Dec, 16, says
County Judge Dunn, providing
the holidays are not continued by
Gov. Chamberlain after the 14th,

divided profits should be 12,646.89

ing by the Globe to the Port
land Chamber of Commerce whei e
they will be distributed to per
sons looking for homes in the
West; another lot was sent to
Iowa. A few still remain at this

Word was received in Heppner
on the afternoon of the 8th of
December from Spokane to the
effect that Webb McCaslin, the
murderer of E. F. Zaspell, had
been arrested in that place.
McCaslin admitted that he had
killed Zaspell, but said he did it
n self defense. Sheriff Shutt
and A. T. McRoberts left im
mediately by team for Arlington
to catch the night for Spokane.
The Sheriff took along a draft
for $500, the reward for the
murderer.
