' Jnet as an esfieriment, and to see
: what G illiam euunty mil could do when
given a clear deck and a new deal, Har
rv Botir, vhoclaiiuetn know considera
bly more about carjieutering and cabinet
ttiakinit than be does altoat farmini;, a
' year or two ago undertook to propagate
- a new variety of potato from the eeed.
.That his effort was crowned with enc
'.cesa is shown by a sample of the new
.variety of spud which he left at this nf
fice the other day, the product of a sin
gle bill. The sample consisted of seven
modBter tnliers, all a nii.iilar as ho many
peas and measnriiifr 10 inches s 2i x 4.
The agereication all ifiew from one "eye"
'and were attached to the same stalk.
Their com hi ned weight it 14 pounds.
To tbe Gloss Iirs been accorded the
honor of naming the new tnher and after
mature deliberation we have selected
the name "Condor," that being a con-
traction of Condon, Oregon, the liest
town in the Inland Empire, near which
the new potato had its origin. It is also
the name of one of the largest birds that t
''Hies with its own wings" and we are
willing to stake onr reputation as an
expert on spud that the Condor potato
is not. only "a bird" among its kind bnt
also that it will never need to borrow
.wings with which to soar into the front
rank hi the potato market.

. ..Cause of Lockjaw.
Lockjaw, or tetanus, is eaned by a
bacillutt or germ which exists plentifully
in et reel dirt. It is inactive so long: as
exposed to the air, but when carried be
neath the skin, as in the wounds caused
hy percussion caps or by rusty nails, and
when the air is excluded the germ is
roused to activity and produces the niosi
virulent poison known. These germs
may be destroyed and all danger of lock
jaw avoided by applying Chamberlain's
Fair. Balm freely as soon as the injury
is received. Pain Halm is an antiseptic
and causes cuts, bruises and like injuries
to heal without maturation and in one
third the time required by the usual
treatment.
