They have offered to leave all ques
tions at issue to a board of seven
men three to be chosen by the an
ions, three by the employers and
these six men to select the seventh.
The. Portland employers seem to be
trying to ape the coal barons in as
tunning an air of arrogance and de
claring "there is nothing to arbi
trate It is too bad that a few
employers who have banded to
gether to "break the union" should
be able to tie up and hinder the
progress and development of a
city like Portland. It is time that
a compulsory arbitration, law was
passed.
