The stockholders of the Arlington Na
tional Bank held a meeting on the 14th

the city council at a recent special meet-
imr, bad raised the marshal's salary to
$73 a month in consideration of hit snr-

residence of P. II. Stephenson In this

Charles Wilkinson White wss born In
Lincolnshire, England In 1858. In lone,
1878, when In bla 20th year, he emigra
ted to the United States, coming direct
ly to Lona Rock where be joined bla
alder brother, William, who had preced
ed him to the New World. Alter Hop

settled on Paper Sack where beettab

him In the autumn of the same year,

The entertainment given by Wallula
Circle Frldav evening was a pronounced
success. Armory hall was packed to its
fullest capacity and throughout the pro
gram tha interest and appreciation of the
andience was unceasing. The program
contltted of choice vocal and Instrumen
tal selections, an excellently delivered
recitation, a comedy, "The Match Box,"
which laid In the shade the work of
many traveling companies, and the
"coon ahow," whicb wat the feature of
the evening, being quite an innovation
in Condon's amusement circles. The
X Condon Coons" simply covered them-
aelvea with burnt cork and glory. Tbeir
rendition of favorite plantation melodies
and eliolce Instrumental telectiona wat
"the finest." The "shingle lunch" wat
at once dainty and substantial and the'
dance which followed waa most enjoya
ble. The evening'a receipts amounted
to 1102.00 and the "chip pickers" are
correspondingly happy.
