Mr. Foss will have them mounted for

and reports everything prosperous there,
Messrs Coylo and Kid well, ot Heppnor,
wore here Saturdry and Sunday buying
horses. They secured a number at this

tract to furnish 30 head. They arc
buying mares or geldings from 14 to 15
hands high, and pay all tho .way from
$20 to $.15 a head. The horses are for
tho English government and will be
shipped to South Africa for service,
against the Boers. A Condonite remarks

ing over the much talked of Condon
Arlington railroad proposition with a
view to building th road If right-of-way
can be tecured. In an interview Tuesday
morning the (i)obe teamed that they
came from Moro via. the route of tht
proposed Columbia 8outhern branch to
tho niotith of Tliirtyiiiile on the John
Day and ay that, whilo they are not in
a position tokuow the lutentlonaof that
com puny, they do not believe the branch
will be built in the immediate future.

Life In tho Wild West.
Frank Armstrong was to meet Messrs
Moore and Elrod at the mouth of Thirty
mile Monday about noon but he didn't
quite. The gentlemen left Moro at an
early hour that morning and depended
on friend there to telephone Mr. Arm
strong to that effect as soon as the oilice
was open so that he could meet them as
per previous arrangements. The rnes-
satso was not sent until 3 P. M.t however,
and when the railroader reached the
river, about noon, tired and footsore and
hungry a bears, there was no one to bid
them welcome. Nothing daunted, they
rolled up their trousers in a bundle
and waded the turbulent John Day, their
hope and hunger buoyed up with
thought of the dinner they expected to
get at the Uraham ranch, on this side of
the river. Imagine their chagrin and
disappointment when they found the
house deserted and tho pantry door lock
ed. They thought they were hungry
before they made this discovery, now
they knew it. They had already walked
about 15 miles but thev had started to
Condon and they mesut to get there; so
tightening their belts, they tack led the
long, steep hill w hich leads to Buckborn.
It was nearly sundown w hen Mr. Arm
strong met them and there was joy in
the hearts of two Moro men when he did.
The party reached Condon at 0.30 P. M.
and tho visitors were good and ready for
the good dinner which was ready await
ing their arrival. '
Gilliam county people have been long
looking for a couple of hustling stayers
to lake hold of the. Condon-Arlington
railroad proposition and they are glad
to know that Messrs Moore and Elrod
are hero w ith that very purpose in view.
