direction - of the Sisters
Condon has natural advantages
While there are many persons. . -
, , . , ,' ,, ( of a larger and better town than it
who do not agree with the Catholic
church in matters of religious belief
there are few, at the present time,
who fail to recognise the excellence
of their educational institutions,
not only as regard moral inrluence
and excellent discipline but also in
the way of thorough mental train-
Father Kelly, whose work as
pastor calls him into almost every
neighborhood in this and adjoining
counties, states that there is a de
mand for just such a school at
this place for the reason that in
the country districts school privi 1
eges are so limited that many
families are oblged to send their
children to distant towns in order
to give them the advantages ol
anything more than a mere rudi
mentary education. This entails a
heavy expense in this country oi
magnificent distances in many
cases being more than parents are
able to bear, and as a consequence
the children are denied the benefits
of a complete and thorough school
ing. While the moral and intellectual
influence of such a school would be
of much worth to the town, there
are other and more material bene
fits which would follow its estab
lishment that are well worth tak
ing into consideration. Many
pupils who are now sent to distant
schools could be kept at home and
the money wbich is spent for and
by them would be spenthere, while
many families would doubtless be
induced to make this place their
home if we could but offer them
proper facilities for the education
of their children, thus helping to
build up and make permanent the
"Summit City."
Such a school would in no way
interfere with the usefulness of our
public school but in most cases the
academy would take pupils after
having finished the public school
course and complete
the work begun there.
When desired by parents the acad
emy would receive boy pupils up to
the age of 14 years. Such an insti
tution would certainly be a great
advantage to our town and it in to
hoped that our citizens will give
the project hearty encouragement.
We understand that one of our en
terprising citizens has offered todo
nate the site for the building and
with a little irore . substantial en
couragement there should be no
trouble in securing the institution
for Condon.
is now, but natural advantages
alone won't make a town big and
strong and hustling. It takes
I effort. United effort on the part
J of her people is what Condon needs
(and the best way to get down to an
! all-one-way pull 'is to organize.
Individual effort is all right so far
as it goes but it is a puny weak
ling compared with community
enori.
Since tha Gt.oBS "m ve V for a
flouring mill for Condon, a few
weeks ago, we have heard numer
ous seconds to the motion. Re
marks are now in order and togiv
all a chance to hear what you have
to say on the question the Gi.obk
will gladly grant space to anyone
who wishes to be heard. Don't b
backward We need that flouring
mill and we should all keep talking
until we get it. -
