Railroad Rumors
W. J. Mariner and J. A. Smith, of
Malock, N. (1. llialock, of Walla Walla,
nd S. McCalw, an en.tern railroad man,
were In town last Friday night having
driven through from Pendleton by pri
vate conveyance. The gentlemen were
not very communicative as to the object
of their trip, but it It understood
here that they are looking into the pros
nnd cons of a railroad proposition, the
object of which will be to tap Condon,
and the rich whe tt belt adjicont theroto.
If built, the road will lie a part of the
proposed boat line and portage railway
system of transportation on the Colum
bia river, and will 1m one of the most
important (coders ol that system.
There appears to be a good prospect
that the transportation question, (or
this section of Gilliam county, it getting
in good shape (or a speedy solution.
Telephone a Sure Go.
We understand the Inland Telophone
Co, has at last decided to build a line
from Arlington to Condon and work will
begin within the next 80 days. There
has been so many bitches and delays in
this telophone business in the last few
years that the people will feel more as
surance of having a line after work bas
actually commenced, but we all
hope that the report is well founded.
It It likely the line will be continued
from thit place to Fossil during tbe
summer.

will commence on the Hue as soon as a
