Parties having lately handed County
Clerk Fraaer a tetter, signed by the offi
cials of the U. 8. Land Office at The
Dalles, dated Jan. 10, 1898, wherein It
was stated that claimant! were entitled
to purchase, nmier the Forfeiture Act, at
any time before Dec. 81, 18W.
Mr. Fraxer forwsrded the letter to
the Dalles Land Office, and asked for an
explanation and their opinion as to the
expiration of time within whbh settlers
could purchase their lands; and the
following reply was received :
