golden rule. If Condon celebrated
at all she would want her sister

and assist her, but as at least three

celebrate our national birthday,
Condon has decided to "do unto
others as she would have others do
unto her," and her citizens will,
therefore, turn out eumasse and
assist their neighbors in fittingly
celebrating tRe greatest day in Am-
eritatn history.

Baxter Thompson, of Baker City, is

on Cotton Wood this week.
The remnant of the Hoover band of
horses, consisting of 75 head, were sold
at auction last Friday in town, at an
average price of f 17 per head, all wild
horses except about a half dozen head.
ti'ttle Wyatt Putnam, who was shot
through the left breast with a 38-caliber

ing around town. The front woond is
entirely healed and. the back one nearly
so.
Henry Heirtman. one of the largest
horse raisers of Southern Gilliam coun
ty, was in tow the first of the week
haying new wagons and harvesting ma
chinery to harvest hie immense hay
crop.
LONE ROCK.
P. L. Ham went over to Heppner the
first of the week to look after business
interests.
Frank Ralston and Bill Snell started
for the Willamette valley 8tmday with
a large band ol horses for sale.
J. B. Goff came op from Arlington
Saturday and reported great rejoicing in
that burg over the result of the election
(that is, with the successful parties).
Bob Robinett has the contract of
widening the narrow places on the new
prade. What work he has done has im
proved the road wonderfully, as the road
supervisor left so many narrow places on

Dell Ward, who lives with his parents
a couple of miles from town, was thrown
from a horse last week and pretty badly
Utumed up. His left shoulder was dis
located. Bob Johnson bronght him to
town, and Dr. Luna reduced the fracture,
tat the boy has suffered severe pain
from the accident.
John M. Brown's hired man went to
feed the hogs the other day and, not
being accustomed to such duty, he for
got the very necessary part of calling
UJore pouring in the milk, and, only
one old sow being present, she gobbled
up the whole works before the rest got
there, and in consequence there are now
10 young pigs in the orphans' home on
the Browa farm,
A a public meeting held here last
week the citizens of Lone Rock decided
to celebrate the Fourth ot July in a
good, old-fashioned patriotic way. The
various committees are at work and a
fine program will be rendered, consist
ing of patriotic song, orations, games,
races aud all other amusements suitable
on such occasions. The American eagle's
tail will be twisted in an approved style.
Everybody is cordially invited to come
and participate. A grand ball at night.
