Talk atiout your cyclones, Kansas ain't
in it with Oregon this summer. Lust
Friady afternoon about 4 ;30 o'clock the
wind blew a living gale in Condon; and
everything that as movable was seen
flving through the air at a rapid rate of
speed. It is said that the wind lifted
the mortgago off of a farm north of town
and had not been found up to the time
of going to press, neither has the Guihk's
bulletin board, which the wind also lifted
from its moorings and it wasn't much
of a day for wind, cither.
A Ci-oit Cam E. Jacobsen and P. L.
Bayers, of the Jscobsen Book & Music
Co., ol The Dalles, arrived in Condon as
we were almost through with the Job of
pressing and about to haul in the gang
plank. Mr. Jacobsen requested us to let
the people of Condon know that he has
somoof tbo finest piano and organs
ever seen In this section. They can lie
seen at the Armory hall where Mr. Jacob
ion is located, and invites everybody to
call and see their fine instruments.
They are now unpacking a car-load of
their instruments which arrived from
Arlington a fow days ago and will be on
display at the Armory hall for a few
days only.
Hons. E. M. and 8. P. Bhutt, the en
terprising editors of the Antelope Herald
and this great weekly, will lie at their
home in Pennsylvania ere this issue
reaches its thousands of readers. The
Herald has (or its editor, during E. M.
Shntt's absence. Dr. Pilkinirton. who
was formerly on the Oregonian slnff, and
is a man of wide experience in the newa
iiener business, and a more brilliant
writer would lie hard to find in Eastern
Oregon. We are personally acquainted
with itro. Pilkington, in fact, we have
set copy from bis pen, and are, therefore,
in a position to know whereof we speak.
We congratulate the Herald on its-suc
cess in securing such enable, assistant
editor.
The renders of this paper must not
expect too much from an editor who is
handicapped by deafness and dyspcpesia
and one who has never before held down
the editorial chair. Although we have
served our time at the cases, we have
never before made an attempt to edit
a paper. We ere justly proud however,
to know that the boss editor has placed
confidence in our ability to manago his
business for the while he is absent, and
we will try to do the best we can. The
citixens of Condon, God bless them, they
will all do what they can to help us out,
and, with the help of our correspondents
from the neighboring towns, we think
we can manage to fill our columns with
out anv difficulty. This issue is a sam
ple of our work and we leave it to the
many readers of the Gloiik to judge for
themselves whether we are capablo of
running a newspaper or not.
