The county court of Joeephene
has been enjoined from having the
i!inty records ex per led. and Judge
Hanna has also decided that it can
11 t compel the sheriff to publish
the delinquent tax list in a certain
newspaper, as he has 'complete ju
risdiction in the- matter and can
use his own judgment. Guard.
The above ought to serve as a
pointer for our own county court,
which imagines it has the power to
repeal state laws and run all the
county oHices, regardless of the
opinions of the various oflicers.
The best-guarded tomb in the
United States is the Vaoderbilt
mausoleum near New York City,
which is guarded night and day by
relays of men armed with Winches
ters, andconnected by wire with lo
cid and metropolitan police, where
they can obtain assistance and
rouse the . whole city of New York
at any hour, at a moment's notice.
The graves of nearly all the very

A member of the Kansas , legisla

out of his 1150 salary (for the ses
sion) to lift a $1600 mortgage.

out here in Oregon are said to have
done a good deal better than that,
and the legislature didn't even get
organized, either.
A leading horse dealer of Port
land says that there is not one
horse in the city market to where
there were a dozen two years ago.
He predicts high prices for horses
on the ground that none have been
bred for the last five years, and it
takes that long to make a good sal
able animal.
President McKinley should by
all means accept the invitation to
visit the Pacific coast. He has
never visited Gilliam county yet,
which at this season of the year re
sembles the ancient garden of Eden.
