THE C0IID0I1 GLOBE
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13. 1890.
THE OFFICIAL PAPER OF GILLIAM
COUNTY. OREGON.
We met the eneoiy and we are
theirs. Win.. McKinley has been
elected president by one of the
largest electoral votes ever given
and by" the popular vote. He is a
pure statesiuan and we hope that
he will give us an administration
under which the country will prosper.-
As is well known to our read
ers we disagree with bini on the
prominent question ' at issue, but
still we hope for the" best. He is
the president of no party. He is
the president of the American peo
ple. If our political opponents
DrosDer under his administration,
so will we. If time does not bring
the prosperity promised by the
victorious party, the American peo
ple will arise in their might at the
next election and hurl them from
power. This is one of the blessings
of a free and independent country.
Guard. ,
The American doctrine that every
man is the equal to every other
man, will finally result in serious
trouble. The loafer is not the equal
' to the industrious man, and there
' is a difference in the intelligence of
men, but the American doctrine
eayB that all are equal. , Ameri
cans bring up their boys with less
ambition , than the people of any
other country, and as a result, a
laree shiftless class is crowing up,
with whom industry and thrift
will finally be a crime. These
' shiftless people, refusing to take
care of themselves, want the govern
ment to take care of them, saying
it owes them a living. This is so
cialism and anarchy, and the very
worst doctrine that could set a
foothold in America. Dalles Dis
patch. ' ; ' : ' "
The democratic Eugene Guard
pays Mr Bryan this compliment:
"William J. Bryan is as grand in
defeat as he was in battle array.
No candidate ever made such a
fight single handed. He asked for
no quarters from the aggregated
wealth of America wbicft tougnt
him so bitterly, but denounced
them from every platform. Near
ly every leading paper in his party,
the administration at Washington,
and the heretofore leaders bolted.
. Still he made a remarkable showing
for a new national iBsue. The fight
will continue for the. next four
years, and we believe will win. If
. it does, it is likely that William J.
Bryan, the patriot, will be the oc
cupant of the White House."
Indianapolis Journal: She
Talk abut women talking! If they
are any worse than you men are
when there is a campaign, then I
dont know a thing. He But you
must bear in mind that we only
get that way once in four years.
During the great political con
test, Durrant, the notorious mur-d-.-rer,
appears to have been "lost
in the shuffle." Better hang the
fellow now during the lull.
If the neoDle had voted directly
for president the result would be
the same. On the popular vote
there is a million majority for
McKinlev.
Spain is reported a "getting out
of patience." She has already got
ut of money and in a short time
she will be getting out of Cuba.
Colonel Ingereoll favors gold, but
he is certainly not on the right
track to reach the city whose streets
are said to be paved with gold.
' "A friend in need is a frienl indeed."
