f r THE COHDOII GLOBE FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 1865. THE OFFICIAL PAPER OF GILLIAM v COUNTY. OREGON. E. Y. Judd has recently return ed from an extended trip to Europe and the Holy Land Mr. Judd is largely interested in the Pendleton Wool Mills and gives the East Or eonian of that place an interest ing interview. He says that East ern Oregon wools are in strong de mand in the Eastern markets and while the market will open low he xpects it to gain strength as the season advances. Mr. Judd be lieves wools will open at a trifle lower than the ruling prices of last year, but' by the time the season commences here. May 1. when the, mill starts'up in Pendleton, the de mand, now growing better, will have caused such an advance as will at least cause customers to realize last year's prices. Oregon wools are in hig demand compared with wools from other sections, and Pendleton scoured wools ' are high up in the estimation of Eastern buyers, on account of being free from short California wools, its long staple and the fact that it can be depended on for ' even quality. This year Pendleton will handle 5,000,'OOQ pounds, making it the largest shipping point in Oregon. There are many administrators and executors, and the last legisla ture enacted a law materially af fecting their duties. The new law says: "An executor or adminis trator, within the first ten days of April and October of each year, until discharged from their trust, -shall file with the clerk a verified account, showing the amount 'of monev received and expended, from whom received and to whom paid, with proper vouchers for such pay ment, the amount of claims pre sented and whether allowed or dis allowed, and any other matters necessary to show the condition of (he affairs of such estate." If an executor or administrator has been , appointed only sixty days when the first of April or October comes t around, he is excepted under the law from filing this account. The law does not go into, effect until ,, May 24th, hencej.fre filing of these accounts will not be necessary dur- ing Js-firitTen days of the coming gwkugh the late congress erred 'niue things it was not without virtue. It left the poor man a legacy that he should not overlook. It reduced the tribute levied on necessities and reduced the cost of them, and left the income tax to collect from the rich the amount of revenue lost by the tariff reduc tion. It sought to reduce the tax burdens of the poor by levying a heavier assessment on the rich. More of such legislation' would serve to arrest the further pauper izing of the masses for the benefit of the classes. If its laws are al lowed to stand, time will vindicate the wisdom and the good inten tions of the congress whose life went out March 4th. Ex. s Eli Perkins says: Wages get lower as we go east. . Here are car i pehters' wages all over the world: America, $3; England, $1.50; Bel ' t - Ijium, $1, Germany, 75 cents; Aus ,! tria,; 50 cents; Italy and Hungary, ' " 25 cents; Turkey, 15 cents; China, : V. -7 cents; Japan, 15 cents. Each lowwage country can manufacture . , and ship to the next higher wage - country, but not vice versa. Amer - ica.can not hope to hip to Ger t jmany until free, trade shall reduce ' lour wage to theirs. This would .come with free trade. It is only i ' 'protection that can prolong the Jjireadful day. " China and Japan are about to iShake hands and declare the war .off,.; ., To bring about this result, China has agreed to acknowledge the independence of Corea, and to pay to Japan a; cash indemnity of not to exceed. $250,000,000 in gold coin. The war has been the means of making some pretty good foot racers out of the Chinese. When , it comes to "wraslin" a pot of rice or rats the Chinese take the bakery, but. they are not in it on the battle field. The roar of a cannon scares . a Chinaman so that be never stops . running until he break his neck. ! ' 1 J. W. Redington, editor of the luires physicians to register with Puvallup Commerce. This is silly talk to jeouie from republicans when it is I a tact tnat the present taritt is in i tie, if any, lower on the average than the republican tariff up to the date of the enactment of the Mc Kinley law only five years ago. And it was under such a tariff system that these same republicans declare the country grew to wealth and prosperity. The Arlington Record man is a great prophet. He undertakes to predict what course Senator Mc Bride will pursue during the entire six years for which he is elected. We suggest that the state weather bureau be dispensed with, and that people look to the Record man for weather indications, as well as all other things that are to take place in the future. bt. Helens Mist. The herd of camels that ranges between the Gila and Colorado rivers, in the plains below the Eagle Tail mountains of Arizona, is said to be increasing rapidly. It numbers upward of 400, despite the fact that many are killed and sold to miners for beef, and others are captured for circus troups. This herd now forms the main supply for the showmen. It is discovered that under a strict, construction of the law of 1893, allowing discharged convicts $5, a 115 suit of clothes and trans portation to his former residence, is no longer in force, no appropria tion for this purpose having been made by the last legislature; and Salem people are worrying lest con victs be turned loose there ragged and "broke." ' It is currently reported that an effort will be made by some disap pointed politicians to defeat John H. Mitchell and W. R. Ellis two years hence. If .either of the two men is the choice of the people, they will be returned to congress, but no ring combination will ever displace either cjthem. Long Creek Eagle. . We are in receipt of a communi cation from George Gould of New York, asking the Globe to con tradict the statement sent out by the Associated Press that his sister had paid the Count de Castellane 12.000,000 to marry her. George says there's nothing in it, and we hope he isn't lying about it. Count de Castellane will surely be spoiled if he wasn't raised a pet. A cigar-maker in New York made 250O cigars for the count which cost $1.50 each. It took two months to fill the order. At this rate the Anna Gould millions' will soon go up in smoke, providing there's not a string to them. Any fool can cry down his town but the sensible man will speak well of it, endure the'evilsin hopes they may grow less, and in the meantime squeal less and root for a living. Loafers and dead beats are a class that are always "hard- up," no matter how good the times are. Leader. The beef market is rapidly im proving and has reached the high est point touched in Chicago for a long time past. Of course the im provement is general throughout the country, and our stockmen have good cause to be elated. The last legislature passed an act extending the time for redemp tion on property sold under fore closure of mortgage from four months to one year. Mv head was completely stopped up and t could not sleep at night. I can recommend this remedy." A Cold nearly always starts in the head and afterwards extends to the throat and lungs. By using this remedy freely as soon as the cold has been contracted it will cure the cold at once and prevent it from extending to the lungs. For sale by L. W. Darling & Co.
